can someone help out. iam new at this game. i got my firstever harley davison 02 super glide and love it.i put mobil 1 20w-50 in engine and primary. in the trans a hd dealer said put red line shock proof trans oil. is it worth $15 like i said never had a harley before.
Mobile 1 Vtwin 20-50 will work just fine in the trans.
Maybe it would but I wouldn't put in in mine. I switched to Redline heavy in the tranny this last go around. Seems to shift smoother. A lot of riders have been using this for years and have no complaints. 15.00 a qt. does seem a little high. I think I paid 10.00 on line and ordered a couple extra to save on shipping. I may be old school but to me the tranny and the engine have different requirements as far as lubrication goes.
Redline HD Shockproof used in my bike too. It shifts very smooth and the red color is a bonus to if you happen to have a fluid leak at some point, it'll help you track down the problem.
TD-- On the Mobile 1 20W-50V Twin oil, It's fairly hard to get in my area, I did finds some at a bike shop but they wanted 19.00 a quart!! F-that. I don't mind paying for a good product but getting ripped off is another story. A lot of folks have been using Mobile 1 15W50 for tens of thousands of miles, (with regular oil changes, 2500-3000) and have not had any oil related problems. Just a thought.
I've heard good thing about shock proof heavy, but if you want to stick with Moble 1 use a gear oil like 75w90. Save the 20w50 for the engine and primary.
Gear box's take hi pressure lube to be happy. Motor oil works best in the motor. Chain case and clutch liks motor oil but without heavy anti-friction additives.
I use Amsoil 20-50 in the motor
Amsoil 10-40 in the chain case
Amsoil 75-90 in the transmission
i have used M1 20/50 v-twin in both my engines, M1 syn trans lube in both transmissions and HD syn 3 in both primaries. 02 FXD and 05 FXDLI, both also have an oil cooler installed. I get my M1 at Auto Zone, just under $9.00 @ qt.. Change interval at 2500-3000 miles on the engines, if i have punished the clutch in parade duty or rally traffic it gets changed as soon as practical.
