glide.... the pad is sunken into the caliper unit. when removed, the pads look like they will lline up perfectly, but when I put the caliper on the outside pad must be compressing into the caliper body and then the caliper body is right against the rotor.

OK Butcher - I have a better mental image now. Caliper body pressing against rotor.

Is it possible that the new front wheel is different somehow, and the rotors relationship with the caliper has changed? Does seem unlikely, but things just aren't that complicated down there.

Could also be a bad caliper I guess?

Sorry not more help - good luck.

The new wheel has a differentstyle hub, but everything lined up the same. I just dont know what's happening. I'll just spend the rest of my day today f-ing with it rather than riding....no problem, I'll just ride tomorrow.....no, cancel that, tomorrow starts the new work week and I'll be on the road.
Someone tell me again why I even own a bike. It spends more time in teh garage than on the road.

Because for some crazy reason - it's in your blood!

Just curious (and not that you'd want to spend $120, but would a floating rotor help resolve the constant contact issue?

I think I'm going to go to floaterson mine just to allow the sand/grit/whatever some play to come out on it's own.

Are the wheel spacers different thicknessess?
Is it possible you have them reversed?
Not sure which year you have - but my 2005 has 1 thick spacer (1/2") and one thin spacer (1/16"). If they were reversed I would expect problems like you're seeing.

Frustration is something you shouldn't take out on your computer or bike. It's probably a simple fix. Can you post a few pix?

Yep, the stock pads are horrible . I find if I keep them clean it cuts down on the squeek. I'd like to wait to replace mine but somedays I dont think I'll make it..
My 07' FXDB is apart doing a bunch of stuff. You say the stock pads are crap. In which ways? Is it worth replacing them with another brand? Anyone have any input?
Yeah if you have extra coin, the stock pads are hard between the squeek and the brake dust, yeah they suck

glide05....BINGO.
The spacers are different...but not by much. I'd say 1/16 or maybe a bit larger, but just enough. In fact, I had them laying out on a shop rag exactly how they came off, but in the install process they must have gotten switched around. I went out in the shop, put the bike on the lift and switched them out and no problem. The outside caliper-to-rotor space difference is still not as much clearance as the inside caliper-to-rotor space difference and I am not sure if it's the pads, or just that the spacing isn't always symmetrical. All I can say is that the pads are touching the rotor only....like they should. I think I should just put new ones on for the hell of it.
I know a lot of you guys don't care for the Harley ones....any good suggestions?
Thanks again, and sorry for the "tude" previously....it for sure ain't against you guys, just me blowing off steam. This whole rotor thing happened last night after noticing that my power-vented (self venting) hot water tank (two years old) has a 200 dollar bad component in it that they won't cover under warranty.....then my bike problem....AARGH.
Thanks again and regards as always
