I just had brand new rubber put on the front and rear of my Wide Glide. The front rim is brand new because the old one was bent...anyhow......
I put the bike back together with no snags whatsoever and it rides like a dream, but for some reason, the front brake intermittently screeches and whines. The slightest pressure on the lever and she stops.
I didn't change a thing nor did I have trouble lining anything up when re-installing the front assembly (all done to factory spec).
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance......
Brake pads always rest against the surface of the rotor ever so slightly. You may have gotten a little dirt or sand on the rotor or scraped some of the pad taking it off.
My rear brakes shriek like a bandshee sometimes and my front brake had to be adjsuted twice from Florida beach sand and road construction dust/dirt.
Yep, the stock pads are horrible . I find if I keep them clean it cuts down on the squeek. I'd like to wait to replace mine but somedays I dont think I'll make it..
pop the caliper off and remove the pads. Clean the slides and lube them. put a small amount of Moly lube on the back of the pads where they contact the caliper and the piston (not on the friction material side) and make sure you have the pads seated correctly.
Sabaka... Love your WG. I've got a ( new to me) '96, with very low miles in imaculate condition. When I'm looking for ideas for the off-season additions I'll be doing to my bike, I look at your's!
One of the many questions I got for you is what make of brake calipers are you running, and are they two piston, or one?

My 07' FXDB is apart doing a bunch of stuff. You say the stock pads are crap. In which ways? Is it worth replacing them with another brand? Anyone have any input?
Okay, I found the problem......It was 1 a.m. and I was seeing my brother out of the garage to go to his car. I looked one final time at my front brake assembly and low and behold, when veiwing the rotor dead straight on I can see (standing in the front of the bike) that the left hand pad (inside pad) is seated properly. The right side pad (outside pad) is not even visible! The f-ing caliper is resting right on the rotor. No visible damage (yet) to the rotor and upon pulling the caliper unit off I can see there is only a slight rub against the caliper unit from the 25 miles I put on earlier today. I disassembled and reassembled 2 times and the same thing....it mounts itself with one side of the caliper totally resting against the rotor.
I am so frustrated right now I could throw this laptop through my front picture window and go kick the bike over on it's side.
By the way, the service manual is about as usefull as two **** on a bull as far as trouble shooting.
Sorry for the frustration, but today was an absolute disaster in every respect from morning to right now.
Any help from you is greatly appreciated.
