Default LEAVE IT ALONE????

Hey Guys, The more I read the more I get confused on all these
upgrades like SERT's,POWER COMANDERS,RUSH,CYCLE
SHACKS,SCREAMING EAGLES II'S ect ect...
Has anyone out there researched and done all these mod's
soaking dollar after dollar and then realized That I should have just left her stock ?
Well I'am starting to feel that way because there is equal amounts of negitive and positive on all of it.
I would like to here from anybody out therethat just left her alone and are happy with it!

Well a lot of people bolt on this and that expecting all sorts of great results. Realistically if you aren't doing anything to the engine then don't bother. Altering your fuel system, ignition timing, exhaust, cams, cylinder bore etc requires that kind of attention. I think the best $ spent first is on making it look the way you want but if you like the way it rides and it's got enough power for you I'd leave it alone. I know lotsa guys who ride stock and better off too because they don't know what the hell they're doing

This is good advice. I'm new to bikes but have been working on cars for over 25 years. Most people expect too much and screw it up, by not following a real plan. Most bikes are too fast for the streets we drive them on. Make it ride and look the way you want, then decide if it needs more power and how to proceed.

I dont think that with the newer efi bikes that fuel management type stuff is an option, i believe that it is a nessecity. These bikes are way to lean which meens they will and do run hot, and especially hot in the summer months. A set of slipons a less restrictive air cleaner and a good fuel management device will do wonders for your bike.Unfortunatley with the epa making stricter laws and the fact that harleys are air cooled uts getting harder for theHD to send these bikes out the door running optimumly, so it is up to us to make them run there best. So the way i look at is why spend top dollar for a bike and then not get it to run its absolute best. JMO

If you are confused, you are smart to leave it stock.

All of the above upgrades that you mention have been researched and tried by many.

I doubt that you will hear from many who -

"just left her alone and are happy with it! "

That's really not what goes on here.

clayman pretty much tells it like it is.

Where are you located??

Might want to hang around in the parking lot at your favorite
HD dealership on a Saturday and talk to some of the locals.

Be sure to post back here if you do decide to leave it stock,
and whether or not you are happy with it. Interesting question.

I agree with the fact that the new bikes run hot ,and that scares me.
I know it summer and it is hot in Arkansas,I have not had the bike very long and do not know how it is going to run this fall,I hope it runs cooler,I have not heard of any of the 2007's damaged from running hot, I may be Ok, I hope.
This is a great fourm, alot ofknowledgeable people,All I wanted to do is put somegood sounding slip-ons and make her run a little cooler, and the more youresearchthe more confused you get.So I'am thinking just buy a set of 2" rush slip-ons( for sound)that i have been wanting and then leave her alone,I'am fine with the performance,I'am not looking for drag strip performanceor trying to get all the HP out of her.
and keep an eye on my plugs, from what I have read the 2007'son board computer willadjust it 's self a little for the slip-ons and I should be fine as long as that's all I do.And then start spending my spare change on personalizing the bike.
I will be ok? Right.....

Again Thanks everyone for takin the timeto respond,I know most of the Questions newbie's ask seem stupid to most of you guys, but how else are we going to learn, your knowledge can help us from making
a big and costly mistake.
Thanks ENO

I was just curious where you were, your profile just says bville, and nutts is in vegas.

It will run cooler in the fall, as you have suspected.

There are no stupid questions.

Put the Rush slip ons on, if that is what you want.
Then work from there,
Take your time, and ride safe and smart.

Ask around locally, and see what's normal over there in arkansas.

[:@][:@]Jane get me off this crazy thing. Well all I can say is that my streetbob was not even delivered, and I was already ripping through the catalog for bling....
Far as leaving it alone and I sense alot of frustration here. []

Do your homework... Before I started the madness of downloads, tuners, pipes etc. I first decided what I wanted based of function and performance, do you want pipes bad *** loudor sleeky, or [:-]whatever your interested in.Make that decision first.
I for one do not have a friend or anyone other than HD to work on my bike to save on the labor, which sucks. And Im a freakin idot, to even attempt.

What I do is when upgrading- I will go to several Harley Dealers, and ask lots, lots and lots ofquestions., tell them what you want to do, I find if you ask them the question in the sense of what should I do.......... your going to be lost.

ITs all about what do you want.... They will guide you and let you know what will not be compatible, best of all your work will not void the warranty as long as they do the work. even with after market pipes.

Get pipes compatable with the o2 sensors. Reinharts or Vance and Hines are probably the best for the 06-07 bobs
Get the Screamin eagle Race Tuner
Get the Screamin eagle Stage I air filter kit
Get it done by your dealer
Get your *** on the bike and ride into the sunset.
you wont be disapointed........

Enough bla, bla, bla,

hello, i had on 06 sporty...did the stage 1, big bore..the whole thing...yep it ran better....i sold it and bought an 07 fxd...i left it alone...it runs fine for me...more than enough power...great gas mileage....no epa/warrenty hassles....and i have NOT spent about $2500 to do it...i will not play the games and spend the money on another harley...if you need more power i just read an artical about a Kawasaki crotch rocket that has about 145 HP to the rear wheel and goes 145 mph...cost only $13000.....if you need a bunch more power that seems to be the place to go....i think the new harleys run just fine....just my .02....

good luck
