1996 vs 2000 belt pulley

1996 vs 2000 belt pulley
Does anyone know the difference in a 1996 fxd belt pulley and a 2000+ pulley? I keep seeing on different wheels that they require a 2000+ pulley. Any info would be great. Thanks
It was 1-1/2 before 2000, 1-1/8 from 2000-2005, after that I dunno. The 2000-2005 pulley has a different size locator ring than the older model. They can be adapted however, check out Vulcan engineering. Rotors have the same issue.

I think he has a 96, so he would have to bore his pulley if he wanted to keep it and use it with a 2000-later wheel
The Vulcan bushing would work for the other way around though ... (i.e. 2000-ltr pulley on a 99-earlier wheel)
