I've been trying to like them, but so far I'm not catching on. It may be due to having put in so many miles on bikes with the standard position pegs. I'm 5'8", but my inseam is pretty short... I find myself constantly pulling myself forward in the seat, so I'm thinking a different seat might make a big difference as you suggest. I have noticed at highway speed my legs get tired pretty quickly. I suspect I'm reaching for the pegs against the wind and it's causing me to have to work harder than I ought to have to.

I love the paint on your bike - reminds me of the AMF days. My uncle had one of the first Superglides with the long straight seat and the funky fiberglass taillight in the red white and blue paint. I think it was a '71? I was 10 or 11, and that was the coolest bike I'd ever seen at the time.

I know that the lever at #3 in snake_eyes pic is there, because the linkage from the forward control connects to that one. I will have to pull the little cover on the stub coming out of the primary cover to see what's in there. If I'm reading right, it's likely that there is a splined shaft in there that has the #2 lever on it and it has just been rotated down out of the way. Sounds like that is best-case scenario, and I'd just need the shorter connecting rod to tie everything together. It doesn't look like the peg mounting brackets are interchangeable from forward to standard position so I'll need to locate a set of footpeg mounting brackets for the standard location - is that correct?

As far as the rear brake goes, I believe the master cylinder is indeed in the stock location. In that case I should just need the peg mount and the break lever for the standard position, so that shouldn't be too hard to deal with.

Again, thanks to al for the help. It's great to be able to ask, and receive, good advice from fellow enthusiasts. Sounds to me like lots of folks here are like me in that they enjoy tinkering with a scooter nearly as much as rolling down the road!
The peg mounts are not interchangeable, you will need to get mid mounts from Harley. The brake side won't be hard either, it looks like the whole brake setup for your bike is PN 42502-90B, which includes the rod, brake pedal, and bushings. Peg brackets are PN 50639-90A and 50649-90. You'll also need 4 bolts PN 3214 and 4 washers PN 7045 to mount those brackets to the bike. You can reuse the shift lever (that the toe peg is on).

Man, you're on top of it! PN's and all, thank you. If you're ever anywhere near Abilene, TX I owe you a colebeer. That's Texas talk for cold beer. It's one word 'round these parts!

While I'm thinking about it, can you tell me if the brake light actuator for the rear break is part of the parts you recommended? I'm not getting a brake light from the rear brake, and it's working fine for the front brake... Or maybe something else I need to look for?

I wish I was in TX, unfortunately, I reside in Minnesoviet. The stop lamp switch for your bike is not in the kit, it's PN 72023-51D, I don't know if that's your issue though so maybe others can chime in. Good luck.

I don't think I've heard anyone say anything positive about the "AMF Days" in, well, forever...

I was a kid in the AMF days so it was all positive. I remember getting my mom to take me to Cycle City right by the airport in Honolulu and drooling over the bikes. In particular, I remember the first model Sturgis (FXB?) man I REALLY wanted that black and red bad-*** Shovel!

I installed floorboards on my Dyna. Can't see myself replacing them. Very comfortable and it looks decent on a Dyna.

My uncle wrenched (never called himself a "tech") at Freedom Harley in Denver back then. He rode that crazy looking red white and blue Superglide over to my house and took me for a ride. I wore my football helmet and sat in front of him hanging on to the bars. I've been HOOKED ever since! I think it was 1971.

All my other bikes were mids also, my Sporty was the first bike I had with forwards it was weird it took me it's about 100 miles to get used to it. From there you get better at the ride . For handling once you get used to them you'll be able to take the twisties with confidence. That seats gotta go my S.R. Seat is a HD seat so that's no prob if I could go back to mids.....I wouldn't!
