Default Missing snap ring on steering stem

I just noticed that my 03 dyna doesn’t have the snap ring. Is it alright like this or should I stop riding and take it apart

So put one back on it. It's just a extra safety feature as the actual stem is press in.

I bought one but it is too thick. It seems like the lower tree was pressed a little too far down. I could sand this one down a little to make it fit

Might try loosening the top triple clamp stem bolt (#4), and the clamp bolt. Put a socket over the bottom stem with a washer and longer bolt, apply a little heat to the lower triple clamp and tighten the bolt to the socket to pull it down a bit.

Looks like it's slipping in the direction the circlip is supposed to prevent...

The clip is used as a stop when the stem is pressed in initially.
Should not take over an hour or so depending on front end accessories to remove tree's
Use a hydraulic press and press deeper and install clip then press back to set proper depth.

Exactly ... they should have put on the Ring before they pressed in the Stem

The Stem get pressed in up through the bottom ... although more people unfortunately think it's the other direction and think the Ring is to keep it from coming "Back Out"
