Default My 1st HD!

Well, I may as well introduce myself. I just picked up my first Harley a week ago Thursday. Decided on the FXDL because the pull back bars, angle of the bars, and the mid pegs fit me pretty good. I've been riding sport bikes, nakeds, and dirt bikes for 20+ years, but this is definitely out of character for me. I've been looking for something for quite awhile to put back in touch with the road and help relax after a long day at work. The lowrider has done just that. I'm no longer in a hurry to get anywhere. It's a totally different ride, and I'M LOVING IT!!!

Anyway, my first technical question. What is everyone using for a preload adjustment tool? The HD one is literally a square peg in a round hole. I doubted it would work without boogering something up, andlow and behold, I was right. So, now I still don't have the preload adjusted, and a messed up shock as well! I have half a notion to take the tool and shock to the dealer and tell them to pound in their @ss and give me a new shock! [:@] So, what say everyone, is there a mfr. that makes a round pin type spanner wrench? Where to get it? Thanks, and great site!

Mike
junkie,
the shox will probably adjustby wrapping your meathooks
around them in a deathgrip and twisting. Maybe not.

Anyway, you learned a lesson about squarepegs/roundholes.

File the corners off.

Buy spanner at dealer, 8.00, or put on gloves and hold and twist.

Dito on the strap wrench, you can probably adjust the shocks looser by hand, but tightning youd need to be pretty darn strong

If you guys can adjust the preload tighter with your hands, you are by FAR more of a man than I!! I was getting after it pretty good and it didn't even pop over to #3! When I picked it up, I mentioned something about the square peg/round hole thing the parts guy, he gave me a pretty blank look, and said, "Well this is what we got." Just pisses me off, 500 miles on the bike, and already boogered something up, with someone else's help! I'll check into the strap wrench idea, that's pretty good, THANKS!!

Try usingthose yellow dish washing gloves, they give a good non slip grip.
