Default 2016 Dyna Fuse Access

2016 Dyna Fuse Access: The fuses are located in the left electrical caddy. I will post a picture. Once the caddy cover is removed, there is a little plastic cover, see the picture with red arrow.

I looked in Clymer’s and the owners manual for information about access to the three fuses. It says essentially to remove the “clasp” and the little plastic cover comes off. In a search I found someone else also trying to remove the cover. He called it the “fuse cover from Hell”. That is appropriate. At the end of the thread he says to push in on both sides to get the cover off. That’s not working for me. I may not be pulling hard enough, but I don’t want to damage anything. It seems both sides are free but something else is holding it. There appears to be something on top, but knowing that hasn’t been helpful so far.

anyone ever remove that cover?

Ed

Best guess would be the cover has slots on it top and bottom, and if you squeeze the left and right sides together it will expand and clear the teeth in the mating assembly, so squeeze and pull.

Thank you. That is a very helpful diagram. I am seeing exactly what you are saying and I have tried that. I may have to figure a way to do better. If you look at my picture, there is an obstruction on the left side, so I can’t get a finger in there. I’ll work on it tomorrow when I have some light.

Please take a look at my picture. The writing on the cover is upside down. I wonder if that is correct or if the cover may have been put on upside down and jammed in???

Also that connector wedge in there next to your cover might be making it difficult to remove.

I finally got the fuse cover off. All that you provided has been very helpful. Thank you.

The rest of this is to help anyone else who may experience this problem. I finally got the fuse cover off. There is a catch on each side. Leave them alone. There is a catch on top and bottom. These are the catches that you want. WS6 has it right about pushing in from the sides and expanding the top and bottom. Problem is, there is no room on mine to do that. I ended up using a bent pick that I had in my toolbox. When the top released, so did the bottom. It came off easily once I understood how it fit AND used the pick. There is no excuse for them to require a “special” tool to get to the fuses.

Thanks again for the picture and the diagram. Both were very helpful. A picture of my pick and the cover removed is attached.

Due to being a new member, I have not been able to post responses in a timely manner. When this limitation is removed and I can see that. I will post the outcome for others who may have the same problem.

WS6 was absolutely right. The diagram and picture were very helpful as well. Unfortunately, as you can see in my picture, I cannot access the left side of the connector to press it. So, I found a “hook” tool to release the top catch. With that released, the bottom catch came loose on its own. I am attaching a photograph of the tool with the fuses. I see no way to get to these fuses without a tool. There are catches on each side of the connector. Those should be left alone.

I hope this will help someone else experiencing this same problem.
