I really didn't want to spoil the lines of my Wide Glide and put off getting a windshield for a couple of months. I can understand those who think a windshield should never touch a Dyna but I was getting beat up by the wind enough that 75 was very uncomfortable after a half hour or so, even though I didn't want to admit it..
I finally decided that the whole point was to enjoy the ride. Even though I'm a new rider (3 months) I've put on almost 4,000 miles. I refuse to just let it look good in my garage, darn it, I wanna ride!!!
So, I did it. I got some good advice right here and got a 15" Memphis Slim Clear Quick Dissconnect today. After I put it on, I hit the freeways. At 65 it felt like 35. At 75 it was like I could ride all day. I even hit 90 and was still quite comfortable.
Not all the buffeting is gone, only about 85% of it is and the rest seems to be coming from around the tank. For now, I can live with that but in the future I may look into a tank lift.
Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to share with those who are thinking about getting a windshield.........
Isn't it about the ride?
I have had a windshield on every HD I have ever owned. I like the lines of the bike with... or without it. If you look at alot of the old black and white pictures of the guys wearing the "busman" style hats instead of helmets and riding their Harleys and Indians you will see that alot of them have a windshield. Granted road sucked and were largely unpaved back then but they had the windshield on for a reason. Not so much for wind buffeting as it was for avoiding debris. I am in favor of a windshield for both reasons the wind and flying crap. Especially wearing an open faced helmet. Enjoy!
You're right, the ride is much better with a windshield. I still like to take the windshield off if I am not going over 50 mph, but that doesn't happen too often.

You need to finish the job and buy the Memphis Shades windshield lowers and hardware for your new Slims. In my experience, the lowers willeliminate most of the buffeting.
Thank you stanger; The AeroVest is getting alot more attention these days just because folks like you aren't afraid to say how good they really do work. ---jack (Jack's Flaps)
