I know this is often a hotly debated subject, but I was planning on picking up a straight crash bar for my ‘06 FXDBI.
Looking at Bung King, Sk8 bars - and I know there are others from Whos_Cami, Wreckless Mfg, etc, etc.
Was looking at mustache guards, Lindby’s and the like - I’ve just always dug the straight style and simple foot peg option for mids.
For those who have them: what brands do you recommend? Any price or quality make one stand out above the rest?
For those who don’t: feel free to speak your peace. Aside from the style, I am slightly concerned about cornering, and if these truly slide well.
🤘🏻
I just put a set on my 2010 fxdc , I was skeptical at first about the same thing in cornering & how they would look. So far so good haven’t done any extreme canyon carving , but that do come in very handy if you drop the bike, easier to pick it up , plus offers some protection

When I bought my 06 Heritage in 07, I first bought a Cheap off brand, and of course the bar mount holes did not line up, Luckily The company Refunded the purchase.
I ended up buying a Classic crash bar (Engine Guard) form Harley for the Classic Heritage, The HD Engine Guard Fit great.
The mustache guards just did not look right on a Classic Heritage
In the 12 years I owned the softail I only needed the Engine Guard once, In a parking lot turning around I lost my footing on a oil spot.
The ride leaned over onto the bar. the guard did what it was built for, protect my ride, nothing got scratched, bent or broke.
The bar received a road rash on the under side, only me would know that little road rash was there.

I don't' think Canyon Carving is going to rub on engine guards, unless you dump it.
I have taken my softail 35-40 mph engine braking on a 20mph hair pin mountain road and only scraped my footpegs.
I was/still am a huge supporter of Sk8 bars as I've had them on both of my Dynas. However after seeing an IMZZ elite OG crash bar in person I had to get one. It just looks CLEAN, almost factory and provides more ground clearance than the Sk8 bars.
