Today I was riding back from the Doctor's office and I hit a pressure ridge in the road that launched my bike into the air! I swear, both tires were off the ground at the same time! Around here in the DC area the pressure ridges in the roads are way too common. Remember the old days when they used to make the roads out of concrete. You didn't have pressure ridges in those roads. Then they changed to asphalt and look at the roads now! It's fine right after they put it down but give it a couple of years and you've got chuck holes and pressure ridges every where!! Anybody else remember when the roads were more of a pleasure to ride on? Ok, rant over!
i agree with you a 100% on asphalt. it SUCKS!!!. i live in michigan and they use salt for the road in the winter. it destroys concrete, let alone that crappy asphalt. i have to play pitfall when i ride on some roads up here, i swear some of the holes will swallow you. man i neeedto move south [:@]. jackyl
Yep, guess they don't build 'em like they used to...
please remove this pic, it is not right to post this here. some ofthe members hereare from minnesota. i would hate to see someone seeing this pic and one of those cars or that school bus, have some of there family members in it. jackyl
Yes at one time the roads were better and lasted longer, but the population grows larger everyday and the number of vehicles using the roads and highways continues to climb. The interstates are being pounded by more and more big semi-trailer trucks and the current highway building technology does not seem to be able to build roadways that can stand up to the punishment that they receive. The roads and highways probably could be reinforced or built to higher standards but that would take major tax increases or some of the welfare or entitlement programs would have to be reduced or eliminated and Congress is loath to do that. Unless a way to fund improvements can befound itwill continue to be a situation of try and half azz resurface the very worst and throw a patch on the rest.
they use whatever is cheapest at the time of bidding/construction... which is why you will travel across both mediums on the same highway. One year it might be asphalt, the next year it might be cement.
roads in ohio damn bad here too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dang near flipped me off my bike before. now, where did my tax $$$ go to.not on the roads....rant on that one here too... [:@] damn semi trucks tear roads up so bad. [sm=icon_flaming.gif]
