Thanks Dan. I just found a thread about it. Talking about the dowel pins etc.. This has me rattled. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out with it. I’m sure it won’t be a cheap fix. I was reading a thread where it was saying that Harley originally put out a letter saying they would replace the bearing, free of charge, every 15,000 miles. Unfortunately I bought the bike used with 7,000 miles on it. Have 25,000 now. I have no clue if the previous owner had it done before or even where it was purchased.
From what I’ve seen it looks like it will cost north of $1,000 at a dealership. I was planning on taking it to an indy when he opens but we’re in the middle of near tropical storm weather right now.
Something else to check ..... the alternator rotor , 2006 dynas are prone to the rotor / sprocket failure , bolts shearing off
When it rains it pours. . I found a really good thread on it. It seems like there were several issues with the 06. I’m trying to find copies of the letters HD sent as an ad on to the manual to the owners. I had brought it when when l first got the bike for a 10,000 mile service and was told nothing about the issue. It would have been nice if they would have mentioned it.
So if I have to pay to have the bearing replaced should I just replace the things that you and others have mentioned as well? Even if there aren't any problems with them yet?
I know this would be a shot in the dark, but you might try calling Harley customer service about this issue, since there was a known issue at the time.
I just found these two letters online. I’m not sure if there are others. Is it possible that this could possibly be covered? Even though I’m the third owner of a 15 year old bike? Or am I just grasping for straws?

Won`t cost you anything to try...
You read my mind. I’m calling as soon as they open.
I just got off of the phone with customer care. I was pretty much told that l was out of luck. Even after l made it clear that l had the 10,000 mile service as well as others done at local dealerships.
I gave it a shot. Didn’t really have high hopes being the bike is 15 years old.
