Default Air filter question

Is this a washable filter? May be a silly question, but I really don't know. I took the cover off to take a look.

And don't forget to oil it after it's dried. K&N sells a cleaning and oiling kit for that type of filter. Autozone and probably the other big stores sell it.

The K&N filter cleaning kit does a great job, and makes it really easy.

Not sure how you recognize it as a non oiled filter. Looks just like mine that it would be worthless without oil. If I didn't know, I would use oil or get a new one.

I also after washing in liquid detergent and rinsing, I would dry it in the sun. Then in a dark room, use a flash light on one side and look thru it from other side. The one that requires no oil is dense enough that you cannot see openings. The oil wet one is more open.

HOWEVER, both are subject to damage by a high pressure air hose. It will blow openings right thru filter. If you see that, get a new Harley one or the other well know name one K&N. It comes with a lifetime warranty and they will do just that.

I personally prefer oil wetted. Especially since that filter is going to get oil drips from vent system which is normal and hurts nothing.

What does dealership services do with these filters? Do they actually clean it?

[Edit] Mine says "Dry Type Element - Do not Oil" right on it. That one says "K&N" so maybe not...

So, looks like should oil it? I didn't even notice it said K&N on it until I zoomed in. My eyesight is not the best.
