Yeah, that. Float valves are man made and will eventually fail. Gravity, OTOH, has proven to be 100% reliable since the beginning of time.

Fuel leaking out (plus all kinds of fluid under the bike) can be caused by a lot of things. Not sure if the throttle cable breaking would cause this much fuel to leak out. Let us know what you find out.

okay here’s a bunch of pics I just snapped

I would be concerned the crankcase is full of gas, but I am not sure how you could check that since it's (supposed to be) a dry sump...

Should be able to smell it, but I'd change the oil just to be sure.
From the 3rd pic, it looks like the battery has been leaking. Maybe it's from before but check it out.

Be interesting to hear how the bottom got all scarred up. You dodged a bullet with just a scrape on the oil pan.

I'm lookin at the mouth of the carb . . . NASTY!!! Play it safe with a rebuild kit for the CV-40. While yer at it, convert it to an External Breather. The oil mist from the head breather is getting sucked back into the engine. Trust me, your piston domes and combustion chambers will look worse.
