I have an 02 wideglide and put on the progressive 1/2" longer shocks. It rides better and it has better ground clearance and the pipes did notscrape in the corners NEARLY as much and they clear the shocks just fine. It made my bike ride MUCH smoother over the bumps too.---jack
I have lifted the rear on my streetbob standard was 305mm I fitted YSS rear shocks 320mm long withcompression andrebound adjustments they also have adjustable lower mount for an extra length of 10 to 15 mm Then I drilled and fitted air valves to the front fork caps and changed front fork oil . I have been running around 7 PSI in them . Well she is a diffrent bike now actually smoked a guy on a Triumph the other day road arround the outside of him on a windy mounting road. You gessed right he was a little pissed about it!!!
I have the 13.5 Ohlins on my bike (as posted above). I also rebuilt the front forks with Racetech gold valves and springs to eliminate the excessive braking dive. I can corner great and almost never touch a peg. My bike sits level with me on it.........
This will change the trail and generally make it more responsive at low speeds (quicken the steeing), and somewhat less stable at high speeds. To me the latter would be an undesired result, but maybe not to others.
If you look at my signiture picture I have standard Electraglide shocks. I think they're about an inch longer than my stock Street Bob shocks.I'm currently running about 10 lbs pressure in them and that's about perfect.I have plenty of ground clearance and my high speed stability is actually better than stock, mostly because it's a better quality shock.I initially was running with about 15lbs and while the rear end felt fine it shifted the weight distribution just enough to make the front feel harsh. The new Dynas steer amazingly quick for a huge 650lb bike it's only thier lack of ground clearance and thier tendency to weave in high speed sweepers that I had a problem with. Better and longer shocks will help both of these problems.
Ed,
Yes - I agree with you 100%. And I'm not trying to split hairs here - and I certainly don't know all of the specs of all dyna models. Basically you have added length and clearance in the rear - and changed your st bob suspension heights to closely match a SuperGlide, which I believe has 1" longer rear shocks than a SB out of the box. I would suspect your steeing to be pretty optimized with the additional length, close to a stock SG. You're the only guy on this forum who has raised the rear of a Bob!
The initial post was "longer shocks on a SuperGlide". You have "longer shocks on a St. Bob".
I've followed your air shocks post and I really like the idea. Nice details on the performance. I'm really considering it as I have a high performance front suspension - but the rear is very much lacking and quite squirrely in comparison.
