This is the 2012 FXDC I just bought. As you can see, it has V&H Straighshots on it with a stock airbox. I'm getting loud pops when upshifting from 1-2-3-4 seems to get worse as the bike warms up. I'm thinking that's because the pipe gets hotter and the unburned fuel is igniting in the pipes. Anyway, I hate this! Makes the bike sound terrible, and it's embarrassing actually. My question is....I have a set of stock slipons that I took off a 2011 FXDC at the 1,000 mile service. They've been in a box in my garage since 2011 and still look new. How much would I lose by just installing those stock pipes? The V&H exhaust just sounds terrible to me, and it's way too loud for my taste. Anyway, what are your thoughts about putting the 2011 stock mufflers on? I believe they have "cats" in them, also, if that influences your answer. Thanks in advance.
Was your bike tuned for the free’er flowing exhaust? If not then a) that probably explains your popping and b) it’ll probably run better with the stock pipes back on it. If it was tuned, it sounds like it wasn’t done very well. If you have the tuner you could load a stock tune back in it.

Easy answer, just put them on and you will find out.
Else I agree with Mcchad.
Nice looking bike.
If what you have are just slip ons, then trying the stock mufflers will cost you what, 15 minutes? Try them and see for yourself. Kinda not really even a question that needed to be asked, right...?
the bikes are running on the lean side to start with and then add an open exhaust will cause a lean back fire on decel.. +1 on what MCHAD suggested.
it is like some of these small cars where the owner has had one of those fart can mufflers installed, they pop and back fire constantly on decel because they have not re tuned for the exhaust change..
Well if we're going to the trouble of switching the slip-ons might as well slip in a mild bolt-in cam, zip-zang bing-bang! Well, my work here is done, off to the next thread
