I could use some help. I got my 05 Wide-glide out after sitting in the garage for almost two years. installed a fresh battery and cleaned her up, started right up (gosh I missed that sound) but my speedometer is on the fritz. it no longer reads zero when stopped. I read some posts from others, but none seem to be the same problem.
I pushed the black button on the side and turn the switch, the needle sweeps the full range but stops at random places each time I do it.
checked for trouble codes, there are none.
pulled the sensor out, it is clean as a whistle.
took it for a ride, the needle just ticks upward until pinned, but the odometer seems to work fine.
Is my speedo junk? logic tells me I should try a new sensor first because it is much cheaper, but I don't want to buy both if it is clearly a bad speedo.
Am I right to assume the sensor is ok if the odometer works or does that get a signal from somewhere else?
Any insight or advice would be appreciated
Check your voltage regulator, see what the voltage is going into the battery at idle and have someone hold the throttle to check it out.. If it is above 14 might have to replace?
Or coast down a hill or get up to speed throw in neutral and see if it works, if it does then more than likely it is the voltage regulator... That's what MI e did and I replaced the speed sensor first..
That was not fun!
