looking at a 09 fxdc with dunlop / h.d. tires. [not actually seen the bike in person. only pics and talking to a stealership salesman. says 5,612 miles on bike but tires and pegs look like they have a bunch more on them like 10k or so more. how many miles does the dunlop average getting. the back tire is almost no tread down the middle of tire. thanks in advance for any and all help!
yes, i have thought about that. bike is two and a half hours away. guess i could ask sales person to check, but, you know how they are. most are lazy as can be.
At the end of the markings starting with "DOT", WWYY where WW is the week number and YY is the year. so 1518 would be the 15th week (some time in April) of 2018.

thanks. its appreciated. i used to know that but, its onbe of many things i have forgotten over the years. if knew half the stuf i used to know i would be a freakin' genious!!!
I would be wary of that bike. Worn out tires is a sign of poor maintenance or possibly abuse. If a guy is too lazy to put air in a tire once a month how likely are they to maintain things that actually require tools, skill, and knowledge?
Or it could also be a sign of abuse like doing burnouts or hard acceleration and such.

If youre looking at Dunlop tires I would recommend you order the Dunlop American Elite. These are great tires. Some of my buddies who wanted to stick with Dunlop tires but wanted a better performance tire than the oem D401 tires ordered the Dunlop American Elite. The front retails for $182.25 and the rear retails for $305.83 total $488.08. And Im sure you can buy them online. Revzilla is selling the front for $134.51 and the for $225.03 total $359.54. They handle really well in dry conditions as well as wet. The ones being sold now are actually the Dunlop American Elite 2 which is their 2nd generation
Now if you really want to get high performance tires that handle like sport bike tires. But have the longevity of a touring tire. Then I would recommend the Metzeler Cruistec tires that I put on my Dyna last year. I installed a ODC Monza 2.0 front end last May 2020 along with the ODC 13.5 inch piggy back shocks. The tires allowed the bike to handle like my sports bikes. Now granted I had upgraded my suspension. So I rode my buddies Dyna who had the same Metzeler Cruisetec I had but he had the racetech gold emulators and racetech rear shocks. Both of have a 19 inch wheel up front and 18 in the back. The tires performed flawlessly. A month later I sold my 13.5 ODC piggy back shocks to my buddy because I grinding my pegs. And I replaced them with the ODC 14.2 inch piggy backs get unreal performance along with high mileage. Here are two pics of my front and rear tires showing you how low you can go if you have a great set of tires. But most important. You trust your tires. These pics were taken when the tires had around 100 miles on them. The Metzeler Cruisetecs warm up quickly and get sticky. They handle well in cold temps. And the tread pattern allows them to handle very well in the rain. I was surprised how well they handled in the rain considering water lowers the tires temp. But they kept their heat (maybe not as much when riding on dry roads) and the treading did a great job flowing the water through its channels.
The Metzeler front retails for $166.02 and revzilla sells it for $126.24. The rear retails for $288.55 and revzilla sells it for $201.27. Total cost discounted $327.51. These discounted costs are based on if you have stock size wheels and need stock size tires. Here is a link to Revzillas site with the Metzeler cruisetec tires. And here is a link to a youtube page with the Metzeler reviews. There is one video of guys riding in downpour and you can see how well they handle in turns. Maybe Bellissimoto.com will give you better pricing. As for Lyle and tell him Aaron told you to go to him. Tell him I said you would beat the other guys prices on both the Dunlop American Elite 2 tires or the Metzeler Cruisetecs. Although strongly recommend the Cruisetecs.
My '09 FXDC had OEM tires when I bought it in '18. It was not down to the wear bars at 9,1XX miles, but I didn't see another 5,000 in them either. Mostly because they were pushing 10 years old, I put AE's on it at the 10,000 mile service.
