My Wife and I went for a ride Saturday. We were stopped uphill for a light. Took off but I didn't give it enough throttle and the Dyna died. No big deal, holding front brake and clutch, just hit the starter switch. WTF???? NO POWER TO THE STARTER. My old brain goes total recall of everything I know about electronics. CLUTCH SWITCH!!!! Clicked to neutral and hit the starter. ALIVE AGAIN. OK, it is a 2007 with well over 103,000 miles on it. **** wears out.
Went to 2 Stealers to find a replacement "Switch Kit." 1st said, damn cheaper than a new bike. #1 called #2 and they had it in stock. Road Trip. #2 parts guy said I don't answer the phone. I"M BUSY, I'll call ya when I am ready. Him and another parts guy were trying to help a guy looking for parts for his 97 Sportster., which they could not find. 2nd says I can't do this any more and left. Parts Manager had pulled the switch and left an invoice for me. At the register I see it's $70!!!! What's in the "Kit" - 1 water proof switch (like a front brake switch,) with 2 1/2" leads coming off it, 2 zip ties (that are way too big to strap the handlebar wires with) and 2" of heat shrink that are too big to work with 20ga wire. Get the new switch on and it does not work. Ohm meter the switch and hold in and let go, open line. A defective $70 switch??? Gave it a small shot of WD-40 and worked the button in and out a while. Ohm it out . . . .IT WORKS!
Yeah mine has been out on my 14 FXDL for probably 2 years. Typically fix any issues right away but it hasn't bothered me enough to replace it yet. Glad you got it working
