I’m not leaking any oil outside of the bike. The power in accelerating isn’t affected. I get black puffs on heavy acceleration and white unnoticeable smoke at idle. I have a build up of carbon on the breather hose and carbon in the air filter but I’ve cleaned them and it’s very little. Will be doing a compression test soon. It burns about a quart every 700 miles or so. It has a s&s super carb kit. 98 fxdl. Any ideas. Next is to check the plugs.

 

Compression test and leakdown test. That will tell you if it's the rings or heads.

 

You'll get a lot more help in the Evo section... Most of the guys here are TC'ers....

You can always pop the exhaust of and take a look at the exhaust guides.. I'll bet they're pretty wet with oil...

 

No Harley expert but generally black smoke when accelerating, rich engine. White smoke accelerating, oil past the rings. White smoke when changing gear, valve guides.
