Ok , guy at work has a 2002 carbed softail springer with 5000 miles on it, completely stock, spotless bike.......I can get it fer just under 12000 dollars..........Which is a good deal in my opinion.....Went to the harley dealer saturday to look around and he had a 2008 superglide on the floor in vivid black.....Nice lookin bike ! Can get it for 13200 out the door......Both bikes have their pluses and minuses.....Kinda leaning toward the superglide because it looks a little more rugged as far as the frame, and of course being new it has a warranty......The springer is a beatiful bike! Absolutely clean and all original......I guess what i am lookin for is any info on ride characteristics, reliability, upkeep, etc between the two bikes.....The superglide certainly looks to be a MUCH simpler bike, with less bling etc.....But thats not a bad thing at all in my opinion.
I had the same dilemma (a 98 WG with lots of extras and well maintained vs the brand new 08 SuperGlide) - I went with the new SG cos of the warranty and whatever I do to it is "mine".....
Whatever you do it will be the right choice there!!
Well it depends how bad you would want a Springer. The only way to get one now is to buy the Screaming Eagle version at over $25,000.
Cleaning either bike shouldn't be much different. Spokes take a little longer. As far as ride I have not been on a Springer so can't help you there, I have a 2001 Super Glide and it rides and handlesgreat.
I would go for the 2002, low miles and you would have at least $1200 extra to play with, but that's me.
I would go with the Springer. Just to let you know the Springers do not handle as well asa SG. I have riden an 04 Springer and the front wheel will follow cracks. I would go with the Springer with not being able to buy them anymore and plus it is carb'd. Either way you will be on a Harley and that is all that matters. I would ride both bikes before making a purchase.
I'd get the SG - looks better IMO and I prefer fuel injection and the non-counterbalanced motor of the Dyna over the carb and counterbalanced motor of the Softail. On top of that, the Dyna should be faster, handle better and have better brakes than the Springer.
The fxd will definitley ride/handle much better and have some more power but imo they look like a$$. I think the softail will be more comforatble cheaper/simpler to upgrade for the most part cuz of the carb and be a tiny bit easier on the pocketbook. But that all that being said get what's right for you man.
