Default Hooking up battery

Putting a new battery in a 2005 dyna low rider, fuel injection. There is the normal positive and negative cables. There is also what looks like a 16 gauge black wire and don’t know if it goes on positive or negative terminal. Anyone have a clue where it goes? Friends bike and its been in storage for 6 years with no battery so any help be appreciated!!

You will need to follow were it goes.

There would be no extra wires at the battery post on a stock configured bike.

As im said, you will have to trace it back to where ever it goes and figure out what was added.

Don`t forget to connect the positive cable first, then the negative.

Bike has a key fob so could it be for an alarm?

We can only guess, and that does you no good....

You must trace the wire and see where it goes.

First , there may be a short 8 ga. going to a bolt to the frame. Wiggle the 8 ga. cable from the starter copper post , that will be a positive to the battery. For the life of me, I don't know why HD didn't put some sort of red leads on the positive cable. Connect positive first then the negative. You may want to put an overnight charge on the battery first using a smart charger.

I figured out the small wire, it is the ground for auxiliary lights that his dad put on when he owned the bike.

Funny thing is I was going to guess his dad had an extra ground wire ran for the lights.
