Not sure If this is the forum I need to ask this on
but here I go. Most of you have had done or done your exhaust yourselves.
The local dealer (where I purchased the bike and got a great price on my bob) quoted me a price for exhaust and a stage 1
upgrade.I want v&h bss he told me 584for the exhaust ,the v&h fuel pack 279 and 139 for the new air filter. This comes to just over a grand plus 390 dollars to install.
Is this a good price? Could I intall it myself? I f so where is a good place to get the parts (outside of the dealer)
THANKS
That is similar to the price I was quoted. But decided to install myBig shot staggereds, SERT, and Ness Big sucker myself. If you ok with tools, can follow instructions, and take your time you sould be able to do it yourself and save a bundle for more stuff.
I am not sure about the fuelpak. From what I have read it comes with the maps and you just select differnt settings right on the fuelpak. I am using the SERT and need a computer to make changes.
Check out Eastern Performance for the pipes (they're a forum sponsor) - great prices, quick service and selection. Might have the other parts you're looking for also. Also Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse often is running good specials, and regular prices are good. Even if you don't get the parts from the dealer, they should still install, or check out an indy shop near you for their install prices. But, with some time and energy, and a bit of sweat and ability, they can all be installed by you.
I bought the fuelpak, along with a K&N air cleaner and the V&H pipes. The fuelpak comes with instructions and all you have to do is find the combination of pipes and air cleaner and plug those #'s in. No computer needed. The hardest part was 'fitting' the component in the frame. There's a neat video on their web site to help. It took me 5 hrs to change out the pipes, a/c, and put the fuel pak on. The next day, my wife and I took off on a 1000 mile trip. Everything worked like a charm...nothing even fell off.
I went to my stealer to get a price quote on exhaust, stage 1 a/c and turner and it about knocked me over by the time they got done it was 2200 for parts and labor, so I said well i can put the exhaust and a/c on myself and the parts guy told it would void my waranty if i did that. Is there any truth to this?because ialso visited another dealer much better prices and nothting about voiding waranty if i install the pipes and a/c myself. Just really confused about what to do.
Do it yourself. Seriously. The V&H pipes and the air cleaner kit both come with very easy to follow directions. I am NOT particularly mechanically inclined and I had no trouble with these things. Took 4 or 5 hours at a leisurely pace.
.......I want v&h bss he told me 584for the exhaust ,the v&h fuel pack 279 and 139 for the new air filter. This comes to just over a grand plus ....
Jim - these prices are basically all MSRP. I'd expect you can save around $200 total if you look around then buy them yourself
