Anyone else have a problem with knocking noise from left side primary area on this New 96 CI engine? I have contacted the dealer twice and am told this noise is "Normal" It is getting louder and it is definately not a normal sound
Get a second opinion from a different dealer. That noise is not normal. I have an 07 Super Glide also and have no such noise coming from my left side primary.

Does the sound happen at idle? Does it increase in frequency/intensity as you ride? Do you only hear it when in 5th gear?
Based on your initial description, it sounds like you might have a loose primary chain. In any event, I echo what others have said - you need to have it looked at.
My bike makes a noise from the primary side. The dealer said that some of the 07 bikes makes more noise from the auto adjustors.
It seem's to make the noise when the bike is hot or you are gearing down.
I've got about 9800 on my bike with the noise. I'm going back to my Indy builder in 2 weeks and gonna ask him to listen to it. Might git him to take the primay off and look at it even.

It sounds like the compensating sprocket may be loose, and getting looser.
I have a high pitched whirring or mabey even a slight squealing noise coming from the primary side. Its always worse when hot. Its most noticable at idle but I can hear it a slower speeds in all gears. It was much worse in the heat in Sturgis and its barely noticable when you first start it up.. I just got back from sturgis and I'm going to my local dealer today to let them have a listen.
