I have a 2000 Dyna Low rider with a fairly new HSR42 Mikuni carb. Its got a Vance and Hines Python exhaust and the old S&S super air cleaner. My issue is when its warmed up I often get popping in the exhaust during deceleration. Also trying to set the mixture I noticed I can back out the screw all the way and it doesn't seem to falter. It has the stock jets installed still so I am assuming the jets need to be changed to accommodate the air flow. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Reason: spelling
2000 is a TC-88. 1st thing to remember is the idle mixture screw is out = LEAN. I'm running a Mikuni HSR 42 in my 105" 96 Dyna, Python Big Shots w baffles (EFI crap kinda fell off LOL.) I've been there with the exhaust popping stuff. Low jet - 20. main jet - 155 (gonna have to order one) and the accel pump jet should be the smallest one, the 50. Mixture screw should be LESS than 2 full turns out. Follow the Set Up Instructions on the adjustments. ALL Mikuni carbs are over jetted (too rich, bad mpg) and you will still get some popping on decel even after ya got it dialed in. Let me know how it goes.
I just ordered a 22.5 intermediate and a 165 main. But you are saying even leaner? Jets are cheap so I will give it a shot. I am in CT. so we are getting ready to put it to bed for the winter but I can still test it before I do that.
Check the photo I provided. Mikuni jetting recommended TC 88 jetting. I did an EFI/carb swap on a 2007 TC 96. I worked with Mikuni recommendations and went LEANER. After all my engine performance work, it was trial & error to come up with the right jetting, along with a lot of research on the jetting. After a jet chance, turn mixture screw out 2 turns. Let it warm up (5 mile ride) and adjust the idle screw (1200 rpm) and then the mixture screw. Screw mixture screw IN until it gets an irregular idle the screw out 1/4 turn. Blip the throttle a few times. Turn down idle speed back to normal.

SUDCO is the importer for Mikuni. They may have a recommended tuning kit for your bike. When I tuned mine, I know a different emulsion tube was required.
Hey Texas.... Can you access the jet needle easily while the carb is on the bike?
I know I saw a video somewhere where it showed how to do everything except for the pilot while carb was on the bike... But can't find it now... Need the needle or swap it out?
Tough to get a carbed bike to NOT have some deccel popping.
After over 26 years on the dyno, we focus on the running condition, and let the deccel cards where they fall.

REW13 - If ya prop the rear end of the gas tank up, there's enough room to get the cover off. HOWEVER, getting the needle out takes some work. I ended up removing the carb and worked on the bench to get it in/out.
Ahh..... I just don't want to keep popping the carburetor on and off. To decrease my chances of an intake leak...
I have the screaming eagle intake and am having a hard time finding the carburetor seal for it, I can find the regular one easily...
Guess I'll be raising the tank soon..
