I have noticed that most people on this board have pretty new bikes. I have seen a few people with bikes older than a year or two, but it seems the vast majority of folks have 06s or 07s. I know HD has sold tons of bikes older than that, but they don't seem to be proportionately represented. Am I off base on this or is this the case? I just find it interesting. Maybe the guys with the older bikes just don't surf these boards as much.
I have a 2000 FXDX and it seems my bike is usually the oldest in the group. Where are all those older HDs?
I've stillgot my '80xlh and the 06SB- wouldn't ever get rid of the ironhead . only reason I got the SB,other than fact I just liked they way it looked, was 'cause neither I or the Mrs. are thin thingsany more and
two up on the ironhead was a little tight (haha)
No puddles under mine. Reliable enough to take off any where I want to go. Took Smoky Mountain trip in early May over 2000 miles round trip from my home. Mine is the last year of the evo in a Dyna. Bugs were worked out by then. How long before the bugs are worked out of the twinkies?
Mine has never leaked a drop. 2000 is not that old though. Second year of the TC88. I think about a new bike all the time, but just because having new stuff is fun. Not because anything is lacking in the one I have.
Got to face it, the old bikes require more maintenance. They use more gas, they vibrated a little more. The old bikes were fatter.
I started on kick starts. I'm older and ain't kickin nothin,
The new bikes are easier if you take time to learn them. They don't have chokes. They crank easier. git better fuel milage. you just got to git the EPA crap off and take the factory computer off and put a tuner on with Auto Tune
I see some of the older bikes up where I live and got buddy's with Evo's who love them. They just don't care to chat on a board and listen to all the things folks are rapping about.
I think you are just in the wrong forum to see much about old bikes. You want old bikes? Try the ironhead site, the panhaed site and the shovel site. No new bikes over there.
I can speak only for the ironhead site, but there you will see zero posts regarding 'where can I buy this or that piece of chrome', or 'How much did your dealer charge you to fix your 2007 blah-blah-blah.'
The guys over there are in discussions about how to do the repair work themselves, historical points and questions pertaining to the longest made model of bike Harley has ever made etc. Quite different than here at this site. I am not knocking this site at all, I'm just saying the ironhead site is very, very different than here.......there, you have my 2 centavos, again......pg
