I am looking into putting some sort of exhaust on my 07 Low Rider. My question is do I need to upgrade anything else like the computer or air cleaner? I have read a few different things and my dealer says that I can expect to spend anywhere from 1500 to 2000 bucks on exhaust. To me that seems a little overthe top, but I could very easily be wrong. The pipes I am looking into are V&H or Samson Big Guns. Thanks for the help in advance.
Others will chime in, but here's my take. The dollar figure quoted by the dealer was buying thru them, having them install it, and upgrading the ECU. All of this can be done by YOU!! V&H ~$450, computer upgrade ~$300-700 depending on model, aircleaner if you choose ~$150. My math isn't so good, but that doesn't look like 1500-2000 to me! Save yourself a bunch of money, do the research, and do it yourself! BTW, if you do slip on's only, you won't need to upgrade the computer if you don't want. But, full pipes and/or aircleaner mods, will require and upgrade to the computer. Good luck, pics are required when done tho!
For exhaust, you can spend as little as $100 for Cycle Shack slip ons or apparently as much as $1500 for whatever your dealer is offering.
You don't need to do anything else if you don't want to. If you do decide to do the air cleaner along with the exhaust, you'll need to do something with the fuel.
I did my set up for $600. V&H Short Shots-$300, V&H Fuel Pak-$200, Ness Big Sucker A/C-$100.
Do the install yourself and save some cash. I'm not a huge fan of the Fuel Pak, but it will get you by.
Jeremy,
This is what I've done to my 06 Low Rider:
Samson Big Guns III boloney cut
SE Air Cleaner
SERT
The pipes were 404 plus shipping from Zanottimotor.com, the air cleaner as I recall was about $100 from the same place and about $350 for the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner. So, if my math isn't to fuzzy that's right around $850 give or take. Do the work yourself. The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction it will give you=PRICELESS! By the way--stay away from slip ons. I went that route and it is not worth your time or money. The muffler clamps can be problematic as far as tightness and exhaust leaks can readily develop. You'll be happier with a full exhaust system. Besides they look better too. Antoher note, the Samsom heat shields are welded to the pipes so no chance of loose clamps to rattle about. Just food for thought. Good luck with your choice and keep the rubber side down!
this is totally hearsay, but due to the fact that factory bikes run soooo lean, you can change your pipes, intall the K&N air filter, but keep the stock air cleaner back plate. It should run to where you shouldn't need a download. Unless your at ahigh altitude. My dad has an 04 lowrider he installed the air intake kit and V&H longshot w/o baffles and has not done a download and his runs fine.
