Default Stuff on pipes--how to get off?

My lady friend went riding with me today and left some of the black rubber sole of her boot on my pipe. This is the soft stuff and now it is hardened on. Anybody know what I can use to remove it? Thanks for you help!

From my own research on this topic, here's what I've found elsewhere on the forum:

WD-40
Gasoline--do not drip any on painted finishes
Oven-Cleaner
Fingernail Polish (ask your lady friend for this)
"Never Dull"--can be picked up at Wal-Mart

Many of the above, I've found, are most effective when the pipes are super-hot! Also, choose a cloth not made with synthetic fibers, like terry cloth--this will work the best and be the most gentle on your pipes.

Good luck.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Get it wet and it scrubs everything off with no possibility of harming the finish.
