Angry Help!

Old thread...I know.

Well, I'm trying the Cycle Shack baffle replacement on my 09 FXDB but I can't get the f'ing stock slip-ons off! They barely jiggle. Looks like the connection is all rusted too. Ugh. I'd spray WD-40 on them but I don't know if that will even make a difference.

And even if I can get them off, I still need to get them back on after swapping out the baffles. If I can't get them back on correctly, I'd kinda be screwed.

Any pointers?

(if this thread doesn't get any reply's I'll start a new thread)

Did my slips in twenty minutes. It may be good to have an extra pair of hands around. cause if they are stuck and you need to twist them you don't want to accidently screw up the header gaskets.
Spray 'em with some kind of penetrating oil (wd 40 works but there is better ) and let it do it's work over night!

Wd-40 soak over night followed by a bit of penetrating oil and a bit of heat on the muffler from a propane torch. Up, down, left right, twist. Once off clean up the pipe real good where the new slip-on slips. Use a brown paper bag as a very mild abrasive.

Second the above. I just did my Fat Bob it took 20 minutes, but I had no issue with the old ones. Good luck!

Or, you could just knock a hole in the factory baffle and forget the whole project alltogether.

Yep... did mine in about 20 minutes as well. Mine were still new so it wasn't a battle to get them off.

I'd test out some other penetrating oil and let 'em sit - enough time to grab some beverages and call a friend over for a second hand (since one hand each is going to be busy holding a frosty one.)

Just put a pair on my bike, and all-in-all it was pretty easy. The hardest part I had was getting the exhaust clamp over the mouth of the new mufflers. That took a little manipulating. Once I got that done, the rest was pretty easy.

Those torca clamps? If you look at them, there's a little pressed on piece in between the clamping ends. Once you get them off, look at the clamp and you'll see what I mean.

If you run into trouble getting the clamp on the new set of slip-ons (likely) then drive that bolt on the torca clamp through the pressed on piece. You may need a bench vise for this. Not all the way out of the clamp, but just enough to dislodge it from that little piece.

Makes installing the clamp onto the new slip ons a whole bunch easier. And tightening the bolt will re-press the little piece back to where it belongs.

If you're buying new clamps -- I dunno. Maybe it's not pressed on yet. I re-used my old torca clamps. Only 350 miles on the bike. Why not? Besides, I've heard from quite a few wrenchs that re-using the old (not real old) clamps isn't the end of the world like so many would have you believe.

I was concerned about the header pipe being collapsed a little too much and almost bought one of these --

MUFFLER AND PIPE EXPANSION TOOL

But I torqued the buggers to 50 ft-lbs and they seem fine. I'll keep my eye on them but I think they're okay.

Lol, yes it's as simple as it looks. That's why they're called "slip-ons".

Anybody have issues with their slip-ons and exhaust leaks? I put my new Rush slip-ons with new clamps and torqued to what was said in the service manual, but I can feel air coming out when the bike is running and I put my hand near the clamps. I have some popping too. I saw someone say to go to 65 ft lbs with the Rush ones, but I didn't see anything else besides using sealers and what not. Since I don't know if I want to keep these pipes, I don't want to spray something on that will make them harder to take off...
