Default Transmission?

So the pulley on my 03 Lowrider stripped out. I had to pull the shift drum and put it in gear to break the nut loose. I did that but I’m not sure how I got it into gear. My question is do I have to put it back to to neutral after I torque the pulley nut or just leave it were it’s at and it will correct itself when I put the clutch back in and adjust it?

You had to put it in two gears at the same time to lock the output shaft and loosen the nut. When you reinstall the shift drum you will have to at least get it into just one gear to get the shift forks to fit the drum. From there, it should shift normally.

Probably easiest to line everything up if you put it in neutral.

You really cant mess it up. Once the shift forks and drum are installed correctly, you just shift it in and out of gear normally. In other words, once the shift drum and shift forks are put back into their normal places, you transmission will function normally.

You may have to slide the gears around by hand to get the forks in the proper position so you can get the drum back in it's proper place, but once that is done you are good.
