Default 2007 FXDB -- Front end mod

Hello,

Looking for some direction on some modification I want to make to my 2007 Street Bob.

My current goal is to add dual radial mount front brakes, swap spoke wheels for mag wheels, and put a wider wheel in the front. I do not like the spoke look. I like the beefier look on the fatbob. I am very underwhelmed with braking performance.

The confusion is where to start. From searching, to go to dual discs I see some people going with Low Rider lowers. Others use fat bob lowers and trees.

How wide of tire can I go with my mid glide front end? I have read that stock is 2.5 and I can go to a 3.5 inch wide wheel. Can I add this inch? Or do I need to swap the whole front end from a fatbob?

Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same bike and this upgrade is fairly simple. Install the fork lowers from 2014 and later Lowrider.

Obtain the following items.

Gloss Black Lower Fork Lowers PN 45500273
Chrome Lower Fork Lowers PN 45500267

Order a 11/16" Bore Master cylinder assembly
PN: 45170-08B (14 Lowrider/FXDF)

Get some radial Mount calipers from a 07 and later GSXR 600 (I scored mine on eBay for around 60 bucks)

Order a set of radial Mount adapters from Speed Merchant PN: SM-HDRBM11.5DDB
(I needed more shims then came with the kit to get calipers centered over the rotors properly. So I emailed Speed Merchant and they sent me a few more to get the job done.)

Order an upper brake line with a 10mm banjo to 3an
(I have an extra one if you need it)

Order a custom brake line lower.
I got mine from Magnum Shielding.
have them build you a non ABS brake line lower for a 2014 later lowrider or FXDF with 191/2” legs with 10mm 35° banjo Fittings.

Front Wheels. You will need a Mag that excepts 2 rotors, 1” bearings and 1” axles (not 25mm) 05-07
vrod mags are an excellent choice for this mod, as they allow the use of a 120/70 ZR19 or a 130/60 R19
due to its 3.00” rim width.

otherwise find an HD accessory wheel for 06 and later Dynas that excepts 2 rotors.
(I Ordered a Roland Sands wheel built up with an 07 Vrod hub it’s a direct fit.)

your stock axle and spacers should work fine
(I used the axle and wheel spacers from an 07 vrod because I got tired of mixing up the left and right spacers on the stock 07 dyna axle)

Good luck with the upgrade!
best,
Pete

First off, thanks for all the part numbers. This info in one place is very helpful!

Any reason you didn't opt for the 13" radial brake mount adapter?

It was a purely aesthetic choice. I wanted the upgrade to look as factory as possible and thought the 13” rotors looked too big.

Why don't you consider using two Arlen Ness Big brakes? It's got to cost a lot less than radial calipers and rotors, and you already have one stock caliper.

If he cares about looks, the 07 brake caliper does not match the 14+ calipers, so he'll have to buy two calipers regardless.

If I go for the 13" rotors does it still work with tokico calipers?

i don’t see why it wouldn’t.
you just need to use radial mount brackets for 13”
rotors. Speed Merchant part number.

Did similar ,ended upp whith a 3" rim . 120/70 tire .
3,5"would be better, IMO.
And dont aim for 11/16 mc , i tryed stock 9/16 ,works good and a 1/2" from a sportster !
Feeding dual 6-piston cal.(ISR) , perfect ! (1/2)"
