1-3/4" drag pipes look great on pans and shovels, but the twin cam engine is so big that they look too thin in my opinion, and going to larger pipes will kill performance on an 88" engine. I think the S&S pipes have kind of an 80's superbike style with the twin megaphones.

In general there are very few pipes for Dynas that are both pretty and give good performance.
Wise decision to stay away from the drag pipes. I had a set on my 02 Super Glide and just like the OP, I hated them. They were obnoxiously loud and the bike ran like a slug because it lost so much low end grunt.
I took the drag pipes off after 2 or 3 weeks.

You got that right. Mine had the VH Straight Shots on it. Ran like crap. It could sure set off a car alarm though.
I put my old Cycle Shacks on it. Slightly quieter. WAAAY deeper tone. Runs better too.

That IS a very cool scooter. Never see the peanut tanks on anything.

Was literally drawing up plans for a crazy-Frank style fender last night. Good job on the fabrication of that and the tank. You do it for yourself?
Have other pictures to share? Real clean.

Yes I have fabricated the fender and tank, or rather modified them. The tank is a standard 2.4g sportster frisco tank that I welded a square tunnel to, and the fender is a 7" wide universal fender. The seat pan is welded from sheet metal and covered in leather.

Really nice bike! I absolutely abhor drag pipes on anything. The sound is not just loud, it's ratty. I prefer the stock looking Cycle Shacks for sound. Have an RB Black Hole with added cone baffle. Sound is deep and tolerable for many miles. Suits the style of my bike. Great job on the Sporty tank.
When I started riding in 1968, a peanut tank was a small round tank made by Wassell
