Default Road King shocks on my Dyna

Yesterday I spent the day tinkering on my bike. I changed the oil & filter then did the tranny oil. Cleaned the lifter screen and fired it up and took a ride. I've had this bike for a year this month, it's a 1995 Evo Dyna Convertible. Ever since I bought it I've thought it sits really high. I've had other Dynas and none of them sit as high as this.
So when I got home I slapped on a set of air shocks from my 09 Road King Classic. I set the air at 40 psi and went for a ride. The ride feels nicer but I think I may have lost some suspension travel. It does feel like it sits lower too.
After the test ride I noticed the shock on the primary side was rubbing my belt guard so I put some washers on it and spaced out out about 1/8th of an inch but it was still hitting the belt guard. So I took the belt guard off and all is well.
I like the ride quality but I'm not sure I like losing the suspension travel and I also am not 100% sold on the look of the bagger shocks.
Anyone else done this? What was your final verdict?

Edit- I almost forgot the main reason I started this thread. As I was removing the original shocks I noticed the bottom bolt on the primary side shock was only held on but a nut on the back side but the one on the pipe side was threaded into the shock mount and had a bolt on the back. Is this normal? I probably should've posted this in the Evo section...

Don't know if it's normal on a '95 but that's the way my '07 and '12 dynas are set up.

I've got over 50,000 on my Dyna with Road King air shocks. Didn't like them at first, so I changed the shock fluid. Using Aftershock 10w fork oil. NOW it's great and only takes 10 psi solo and 15 psi 2 up.

I ran RK shocks on my 07 dyna for awhile. They needed to be a higher PSI than any of the road king suggested settings due to the angle of the shock on the Dyna. The road king mounting points cause the shocks to be straighter up and down where 10 or 15 psi is fine. the dramatic angle on the dyna had me running 30-40psi.

Do you know what weight oil is in them from the factory? I may do the same as you and change the oil out.

Yeah I noticed it took a lot more PSI. When I ran them on the RK I ran about 15-20 PSI. I test rode the Dyna with 20 in it and it wasn't even close. I ended up running them at 40 PSI.
That was 2 days ago, I need to get out there and see if they are holding pressure and not leaking. I installed Schrader valves and removed all of those pesky air lines.

I have air shocks from an electraglide on mine. If I'm not mistaken they are taller than the rk shocks. My Fat Bob sits higher than with the stock shocks. I also changed out the oil. I run them at 20 psi. I've had them on there for a few years now and love them.

Not sure exactly what oil weight HD uses, but it's a lot thicker than 10w oil.

I went for a ride yesterday and the ride quality does seem better than the stock coil spring shocks. I do notice a slight loss of suspension travel as it seems to bottom out on big bumps now, which didn't happen with the stock shocks.
Another thing is the air shocks are leaking. When I parked the bike last week I had 40 psi in them. I checked them yesterday before the ride and found 1 side was at about 35 psi and the other side was at about 30 psi.
I pumped it back up and went for a ride for about an hour and maybe 40-50 miles. When I got back I checked the psi again and found both had already dropped 3 or 4 psi.
When I put the Schrader valves in these shocks 2 years ago I wrapped a small amount of Teflon tape around the threads. Maybe I didn't use enough. I'm going to try popping the valves out and wrapping them with a little more Teflon tape. Any other suggestions?

Tried that on my 07'. Worst idea I ever had for mods on that bike. As said above angle of shocks and change in leverage makes them suck.
