Default Intalled Risers on Dyna

I actually put some highway pegs on last week, kinda nice to have the mid-mounted footpegsand highway pegs for stretching out. However, I'm also reaching for the handle-bar more and thought maybe some pull-back risers would be more comfortable.

So I installed the Set-Back Riser, Harley Part No 56066-82A. I'll attempt some before and after photos:

I thought all was good, no cable adjustments needed, and tested the bars from stop-to-stop. I think I have a problem though. The bars flexquite a bitin the bushings, 2 to 3 inches of play. I've got the Hex bolts tightened down till they're snapping, I'm assuming this is not normal, and perhaps I should get those Polyurethane Handlebar Riser Bushings Harley Part No 56165-03.

Any suggestions? Does anyone with experience on these Polyurethane bushings think these would reduce the play?

Polyurethane bushings are better then the stock bushings, but did you remember to tighten the handlebar clamp down be fore you tighten the riser bolts. Just a thought.

Definately get the poly riser bushings ... they made a world of difference in my SuperGlide.

I did snug the clamp first before the bolts, but once I had everythng in place, I loosened the clamp to adjust the height of the bar. Glad I had a heavy towel over the tank, once I loosened that last clamp bolt the bar dropped quickly.

I suppose I'm exaggerating on the amount of play. The poly bushings are advertised to reduce vibration, but I'll pick them up today and see if they reduce the movement.

I just put the Harley set of bushings on my ride this past Sunday & it's like night & day difference. No movement at all in my bars now.

The polyurethane bushings will help with the movement, but expect more vibration, not less. I took mine out and put the stock bushings back in. Something wrong with your installation with the stock bushings, you shouldn't get anywhere near that amount of movement.

Check that the bolt is not bottoming out in the thread of the riser, instead of tightening up, as it should.. I bought risers, and one didnt have any thread in it at all.
You may get a bit more movement, but not to be a worry.

Definitely!! The more you go up with risers/bars the more the play/deflection in the bars is exaggerated - had about 1-2" play with stock bushings, bars, & risers, now NO play with poly bushings and +1 domed risers - used Gooden Tight poly bushings recommended by my dealer over the harley ones and about the same price. Bars really dance at idle (very cool!), but once underway it all smooths out pretty well - but still you can tell there's a bit more vibration coming up into the bars.

Anyone having a problem with bars not being 'straight' after new riser/bars install, loosen riser clamp(s) SLIGHTLY but not all the way (just enough so they'll move in the clamps) with wheel turned all the way to the fork stop and risers bolted down tight to the triple tree, and push bars hard in the direction to straighten them, then tighten clamp bolts back up - a third hand helps alot here. Works like a charm!
