My chrome primary looks dull compared to my derby cover and other new chrome. It was like this when I got it and I have used polish on it to help, but it still does not match. Is there any tips out there that will restore the shine and not damage the finish? Ultimately I don't want to replace it because I am in the process of covering all powder coat with chrome so I want to use the money elsewhere. Also, is there anyone out there that has a fully chromed Dyna superglide to see what mine will look like?
I would say if the chrome on the primary is drastically duller than new chrome, the primary finish is distressed beyond restoration. I would consider replacing the primary. The older primaries can be found fairly cheap on eBay.
Are you sure the primary is not polished aluminum rather than chrome??? Mine was polished aluminum and before replacing it with a chrome one, I used semi-chrome polish on it to brighten it up.
find a product called semichrome its a paste in a tube. it is used on semitrucks to take the blue out of the chrome pipes and shine he rest of the chrome after a long trip.
I got mine at a harley dealer in OKC. I looked at all the autoparts stores local and could not find it. they do sale it online.
Are you riding a Super Glide? I believe your primary is bare aluminum, not chromed. You can polish it out with a good polish like Mother's or Simichrome. However, the best way to do it is to take it off and machine polish it. Either way, you have to maintain the finish.
ya thats definatly polished alum. same with your cam cover and im guessing your rocker boxes as well, get them chromed like yer doin to your powder coated stuff. you can get a chrome like shine on the alum, but spend all your time doing it and keepin the shine and no riding!!! get r done with sum chrome
you have the FXD??? i got the FXDCI which the C stands for custom but really its just got chrome covers on the rockers, primary, cam cover, and the trans cover where the clutch cable goes in.
