There is no such thing as a "new style Dyna". That class/platform of motorcycle is dead. The new Softails are using old Dyna model names, but they are not Dyna's by any means.

The Sportster "C" 1200 is actually a decent touring platform. Install highway pegs to let you stretch out, on those longer mileage days.
Next, get a seat that pushed you back slightly. Get an integrated "queen" seat for SWMBO.
A windshield, and 4.5 gallon tank, and you're seat for ironbutt service.

If I had to park my limited and go to a smaller bike i would be looking at a Heritage Softail. Prior to owning a touring bike I road a heritage all over the country. I loved that bike.

I have a 06 streetbob. I love my bike ( I would recommend 07+ though to stay away from all the issues.). I take that puppy on trips all over the place I just got done with a trip that I rode 15 hours straight ( with fuel stops.). I won’t get a bagger because I love my dyna. I put a Giant windscreen and a lucky Dave’s seat on mine probably could figure out something

better for Backsupport though.

would agree, i got bags and windshield on my 08 bob and love it,

As said, windshields and good seats make any bike tourable.
Dynas are fantastic platforms with great stability and handling, way better than Sporties at highway speeds around traffic.
The Switchback is literally a touring model designed like a smaller Road King while the Wide Glide has the stability with the raked out front and wide forks. My WG rides beautifully at 80+ as long as I have the windshield on for the wind pressure.
Shameless bike **** below. Random Switchback and my WG:

Best Dyna for long rides is a Switchback.

A Soft Tail is not a Dyna . I made the same assumption myself and I now stand corrected . However , a Soft Tail might be the way forward because you can achieve much better back support because of the range of aftermarket stepped seats available . On a Dyna , the only back support you are going to get is by leaning on your passenger . For me , back support is absolutely key to long distance comfort on my stock Dyna with mid pegs .
