Default Windshield advice

I have decided I need to get a detachable windshield for my 07' low rider for some longer trips with the misses. I am somewhat worried about line of site with the windshield. Would like some suggestions on the best fit that fellow dyna riders have found for thier bikes. I am leaning to buying a harley product but would look into other suggestions.
Thanks

I have an 05 LR, and there is a problem that a lot of riders have with windshields on Dynas. The windshields funnel turbulent air around and below them, and the result is that your head bounces around like it is in a paint shaker. I've experimented with various HD shields at various heights, homemade lowers using Memphis Shades brackets, etc, etc. Nothing seems to work for me. Others have some success wearing a vest called Aerovest with flaps that pop up and block some of the air. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. On the positive side, I met a guy with an 07 LR who uses one of the newer style HD windshields, and he says he doesn't notice any turbulence. I'm thinking about trying a Memphis Shades handlebar mount now that they have clamps for fat bars. The general rule for height is that you should barely be able to see over the WS in your normal riding posture. Otherwise, the windshield will collect rain and obstruct your view. The new ones are more adjustable, so they don't need to be trimmed.

Good luck,
Gary

I was today looking at windshiels at my local HD deealer, $370.00 for a windshield, and I don't really want one! Just that I'm about to go north on a 2,000 mi ride and thought I might be more comfortable. I had rented a WG prior to buying my bike and it came witha detachable, I rode it about 10mi and took it off! I hate the way they change the aerodynamics, buffeting and blow-by, sucks..but still think it might help.?
But, I just put a tool bag on up front and it blocks some air! I'm almost ok with just that..! Probably won't get the windshield. Any body have a better experience with them?

I've pretty much thrown in the towel with Harley's quick detach windshields. I've had4 Dynas (including 2 Low Riders) and I've tried the various height windshields. This has been an going experiment for the past two years and I've yet to find a windshield that didn't cause double-vision head buffeting. In all fairness though, I've also had two Road Glides and their stock windshields were just as bad.

I see where there's a new HD"touring" windshield for the Dynas that will be available in September. I may give that a try but I'm pessimistic that it's going to be any different.

Right on TowJam ! Glad to hear from someone who's tried them. I think I'll wait and see also. Thanks for the info on the new ones coming out.

My brother-in-law has the Harley quick detach on his lowrider so I'll have to ask him about any drawbacks. I've cut two down so far and it's not hard at all. The MSP says that you should keep the height just below your line of sight. I thought about gettin' one for long trips but I don't know if it will look right on a Streetbob. Once you get above 70 on the highway, the wind beats the crap out of ya. Guess I could keep my speed down (yeah right) but that's too hard to do when you're trying to make time on a trip.

Hi, I am new to the forum but have a Harley 07 Street Bob which I put the Memphis shade Shooter handle bar mount windshield on. It is not a quick release but it was about half the price of the Harley quick release. I really like it because it is low profile and most people say they don't even notice it on the bike. I haven't noticed any head turbulance and I like the fact that when I am on the highway I don't feel like I am being pushed off the bike from the wind. I am also a 5'4 female. Good look in your quest for a windshield

Patty

Memphis quick release 16" ... I like it. A little turbulence but comfortable up to 90 plus ... better than without one for me. I'm 5'8".
