Work smart. Loosen the top caps before ya loosen up the triple tree clamp bolt. Springs fit flush with top of tubes. No a lot of effort to get the top caps back on.

Hmm, well it took two guys to get my top caps on. Pushing down the spacer is a bitch. I was afraid I was going to get it cross threaded. I did both my bikes at the same time just to get it over with. I like the heavy duty SE oil.

I don't know if these is enough meat to drill a drain plug in a fork lower but I'd prefer it over draining from the damper rod. The big issue is that HDs dumb a bunch of crap into the lower fork area. If you loosen the damper plug it can migrate between the bottoming cone and fork lower. When you tighten it back down, you'll distort the cone and move the damping rod off center. Then besides bushing wear, you have the damping tube wearing out the inside of the fork tube and the damper rod piston.

I really don't have any problem with the crud buildup in the lower tube as long as it's the parts are undisturbed.

Maybe add a top fill hole also..
