I had 1, had to put peg extenders on for leg clearance.
I have long legs, 34" inseam, extended forward controls.
The cone hit me right on the side of my knee.
I removed it because I could see the filter getting sucked in towards the carb
and felt it was restricting air flow.
Plus, I felt it looked too modern, I wanted more of an old school look.

Sorry for the confusion. The pressure in the intake manifold may be lower than atmospheric, but it's pressure in absolute terms. More resistance in the filter will lower that pressure (increase the vacuum) and reduce power output.
"Standard (atmospheric) pressure" is 29.92 inches of mercury, or 14.7 psi. Full throttle manifold pressure on a normally aspirated engine will run about 1" lower, or 28.9 inches of mercury, or 14.2 psi (1" of vacuum.)
I had a forward facing whale dick previously, but my knee banged in to it frequently. I also have the police boards that are back and higher than the standard forward footboard placement, though.

When I
had the factory forward controls on my Fat Bob my leg hit the elbow of the forward facing heavy breather. Since going to further forward mids my leg is just that little bit away from the elbow so it's a non issue. I'm not sure what foot controls the OP has on his bike but that's a definite factor.

+1.
I have further forward mids and one of my whale dicks doesn't touch my leg.
I have one from performance machine. It doesn't hit my leg. I've had some issue in very heavy downpours though even with the rain sock on it, I'm not sure if it was sucking water or just starving for air, but it would bog down when I would throttle up. I also have cams, hyd tappets, bigger valve springs, etc, in my motor. It's been on the whole time since the engine work so I don't have anything to compare it to.
Wait, 3 days ago I changed back and forth between the 5 series round from DK Customs and the 6 series from DK Customs on my Sporty and yes I did fell a pretty good feel from light to light and at 60 in 5th hammered the throttle and was impressed to 80 when I shout her down. Now that's JMO .
