Default Alright, heres my Engine Build, whatcha think?

Okay guys after doing some research I have come up with these build ideas, what do you guys think and what do you think of the expected power/reliability.

2006 Dyna FXDWG

Going for 9.8 CR
37H Andrews Cam (non gear) $245 Roller Chain Drives apparently they are good?
Push Rods? Not sure on SE? Which type will I need?
Stock 06 Heads Ported, Measured, and Possibly milled by Big Boyz Heads $394
Stock 06 Jugs Bored by Big Boyz $130
Pistons: Cast SE Flat Top or High Compression depending on heads $125
Total: $894 + pushrods and labor

Other idea was buying one of these Cheap SE Big Bore Kits off eBay $600
SE 203 cams
Cylinder/Jugs pre-bored Pistons
Clips
Air Cleaner/Breather (already have)
High Perf Cluth Spring *Cam Spacer Recommended* (What is this and why)?
Total: $994 w/heads ported + pushrods and labor

Seems I don’t save to much buying the SE kit and I imagine Andrews cam gives more power? What do you guys think? Trying to have a powerful build in the 90s with stock reliability, appreciate all the help and especially *cardboard* ‘s posts on Big Boyz Heads, I called them up they really seem to know what they are doing and made me feel comfortable.

*P.S. I believe everything else will remain stock I know I can use the stock springs/valves on the heads. Anything else I am leaving out that I would need that’s not stock? Thanks*

Hey, I think it's a good question. I would add the following....Does the oil pump need to be upgraded? What about the clutch?

I believe the 06 model year has an upgraded model pump, probally due to the fact that the new roller chain drives use the engine oil pressure to maintain chain tension. I do know that as far as the clutch goes the SE come with an upgraded spring, but it may be overkill...

Cast pistons in a Hi-Perf build....I'd think twice about that...Also you can do better than SE when it comes to performance....Check out Edelbrock,S&S or Zippers

Well, I've been beating this drum too long I know, but I cannot stress enough:

GEAR DRIVEN CAMS

2. Your stock cylinders are already heat cycled, so bore those out, and go with flattop pistons, cast is fine, unless you want to use nitrous/oxide, or turbo/supercharge in the future....Forged pistons swell like crazy when they are hot....that means when you first start the motor, and it's cold, the pistons will slap, because the bore has to be honed out to allow for heat expansion....gotta let her idle and warm up real good before you give her any throttle at all, even at idle.

3. The head work sounds good, just make sure you go with the best valve stem seals you can get!

4. For intake, go with an Arlen Ness Big Sucka

5. Exhaust...well for max power, a 2 into 1 system is the best. The pipes that look the best, are not the best in term of outright performance.

Becasue you have EFI, it all will come down to who tunes the bike to get the most from your setup. SERT is the best, but some shops only have knowledge with PC III, then you have to do what I did, get the H/D stage I download for the raised redline and timing bump, and then the PC III to smooth out the A/F ratio.

***when you change cams, it is very important to upgrade the cam bearings to the Torrington style bearings, they are the best!

(Honestly, you can get the power level you want with an 88, but it's easier with a 95)

Whats the real deal with Cast vs Forged. After this I don't plan on doing any more major motor work. I believe this will get me good power with stock reliability. Not going to use nos or anything like that. The guy had Big Boyz was telling me that Cast lasted longer than Forged and that you for my cam setup Cast would be fine because I wouldn't be going over the RPM range that would need forged. Also he said the SE Cast Heads are made from a company in Germany that have been making harley pistons for years and have been shown to be very reliable...

2ndly I already have Vance and Hines Big radius (more for looks) and the SE Air Cleaner, will the air cleaner work fine? I also have a Power Commander...

What are Torrington style bearings? Where can I find that kit, also being that I have an 06 and apparently they fixed the Cam Tension issue, will I be wasting money on the Gear Driven Cams, or do they also sound better and make more H/P because of the easier they are to spin?

Lastly what is the comparable SS cam, I believe SS comes with a more complete kit, I was looking into the Andrews cam and it doesn't come with the gears, any reason why people pick Andrews over SS?

Thanks guys.

Also, after watching the edelbrock video, thats looking pretty attractive as far as numbers and simplicity. Basically all ya need to do it looks like is bore your stock clyinders and pay the guy labor...Anyone have exp with their kit?
