so ive been working on getting a road warrior setup on my bike the top of the windsheild at my nose and ive been having a problem that i can seem to find info on. when i ride even at city speeds the plastic flex and shaves causing really turbulent air to hit the top of my helmet and violently shake my head. i dont know if this is a normal thing but its 10 times worse than no fairing at all
I have the same fairing on my FXLRS. If it vibrates/shakes under 70mph, it's loose somewhere. I'm not being a wise-*** but check all the screw/bolts/clamps.
iill take it off and double check the only thing that i didnt use a wrench on was the window hardware, not that im thinking about it i didnt have this happen before i got the windsheild i mean it didnt really help but it didnt shake me
wend over all the windsheild screws and tightened them with a flathead until they engadged the whole nut thing and put some blue loctite on them gonna see
Your description of your issue was kinda hard to understand. Reads to me like two different issues.
If the fairing and clear shield are rattling and moving around. Make sure all fasteners are tight and the mounts are secure. It looks like you have done that.
If the wind coming off the shield is causing your head to get pushed around, the shield may not be right for you. The issue is normally called buffeting.
Try using your free hand to deflect the wind to see where the wind issue is coming from, as in top, sides or even bottom There are things you can try like shortening the shield, or making it taller. Taller is easy to try, a bit of cardboard and tape will temporarily make it taller. If you can tilt the shield/fairing, try tilting it more up/forward or down/back. If all fails, then you need a different fairing/shield. Some just do not work no matter what you do to them.
yea t takes the buffeting from a normal shake to shaking your head so bad your eyes cant focus, the problem is that it takes the air and makes it more turbulent coming off the top of the windshield i went through and tightened everything up including tightening the windshield screws until the felt like anymore and they'll brake which did help a little bit but i still get crazy buffeting at above 40. from what it looks like to me the plastic is flexing just enough causing a vibration and really turbulent air but i cant go any taller because im running the tallest windshield. i dont know if that makes sense im just super frustrated because everyone talks them up like theyre the best quarter fairing out there.
so i took it for a ride and felt around and the air coming off the windshield is smooth until right before it hits my helmet then it becomes very turbulent (i run a biltwell lanesplitter with a cardo packtalk edge if that helps) now i just got to figure out why its getting turbulent
If you want to stick with that height shield, you might consider a deflector to mount to the top edge of the shield. They are curved, also called recurve, so the air should rise higher before coming back at you . Something "like" this but not exactly:
You need to do a search for these. There is one that is smaller, not as tall and uses velcro to attach to the shield. You would generally mount it so that it's upper lip is about where your shields upper lip is. If I come across the one I have or find it on line I let you know.
Otherwise, you may need to go with a shorter shield so your head is IN the wind instead of being blocked to get the air to move more smoothly past your head.
Yea I tried a 15 and had the same problem so I went with a 17 cause I was told it would deflect the air above my head and that's the tallest one they offer. At this point I contacted Memphis shades to see what they'll do but I'm looking at getting a fxrp fairing.

They may make a shield with a recurve at the top lip, this can help raise the wind up a bit with the same height shield.
I have read about people drilling holes near the bottom lip of the shield to solve this issue. I guess depending on the shield design, it has worked for some. It supposedly allows the air pocket you sit in to move back a bit farther.
