Last week I was just coming back from a trip and getting ready for another trip the following day. About 10:30pm. I look out my front doors side window on the way to get something and I notice some lights in the driveway across from my house. The light beams were askew and I could not make out exactly what was happening. I go out the door to check out the situation. I see its a bike (HD Heritage) and a neighbor down the street crashed in the driveway. He hit the curb, clipped the mailbox, and was thrown across the driveway on the next neighbors yard. Just as I got there, a Sherrif's Deputy drove up. This guy was totally out of it. His clock had been cleaned. I help him up and could tell he may have had had a beer on his breath, but nothing much. I ran interference between him and the deputy because I did not want him getting a DUI a couple of blocks from the house. We live in a dead end sub-division and I knew he was not speeding. I told the officier I would replace the mailbox and help get him and his bike home. As we were standing his bike back up, two fire trucks show up, another officer, and two emergency vehicles. They wanted to check him out, but I had looked him over and so no broken bones, blood, or any signs of a concussion. I told him it best to for go the inspection and if he needed we go to the ER. After that, everyone left. He did not get ticketed either. I'm amazed we got his Harley fired up and I rode with him to his house. He'd just moved here from Indiana and the crash made him forget where he was. He pulled into the garage and made it in to his wife, so I left and went back home for my trip to DC.
After I got back I checked in on him. Found out it was a damn cat that ran in front of him and caused him to ride into the curb and causing the rest of the mess. I told him that I treat cats as Targets! Glad he was okay and that I could help get a fellow biker back home.
Not sure about animals as targets though.
I hate cats, but....

sorry to hear this. however my pet cat just read the post and he is not happy about cats as targets. he says he is a good cat and wants to like all people except people that mite make him a target. cats are people too. food for thought as i like animals . ride safe .
I think I would have taken my chances with the cat, better chance of staying up than side swiping a curb. I always go back to traffic safety when they told us you are better to tangle with an animal in the road than the off road obstacles. I know that advice was meant for driving a car, but it is still sound.
I know... I'm the A*@ H@#.... and I should probably be saving my 2 cents here, and staying friends with everybody, but here goes... had it been a neighborhood kid, would he still deserve "protection"? Call it too much personal experience, but one beer, and a **** load of vodka still only smells like one beer. Awe, forget it, if he says he only had one beer, it was probably only one beer, I guess I'm crazy, but we're all grown adults, and we get to make our own choices in life, if you want to drink, and drive through a neighborhood, just make sure it's not mine...... I drink the non-alcoholic beer when I ride....but I still smell like beer. After I ride....well that a different animal!
