I bought my bob brand new. I didn't really know how to break it in, so I just rode it normally. I did see where the manual said not to go over 5k rpm and I did know that was way high. so like everyone is saying just ride hard as u want. u can't break these new motors. BTW, my bike runs like a scalded cat !!

Congrats on the new ride. Just take it easy, ride it light and then ride it hard. Than main thing is to get use it and get to all the gears, up shift down shift. I would recoomend not getting to high on the RPMs for now, take it nice and easy. Get to the high speeds 50 maybe 60 MPH but do it nice and slow.

It's the steady state speed that's not good during break in. I rode mine fairly easy, varying the speed, braking easy, and not over revving the engine for the first 500 miles. After that, I still took things easy. After the 1st 1K miles and a Stage 1 upgade, it was on like "Donkey-Kong".

I don't know if it's true, but if your bike is babyed all the time, than thats what it will always want. Ive also heard, so dont know how true it is, that bikes that are run in harder always have more horsepower. Just dont be an idiot and redline it everywere. Oh, and luging is worse than reving it.

hey I found this site just on breaking in, very interesting. Just got a Dyna, breaking it in as directed by this guy, not the factory manual....guess I will find out later if he is right

Most people don't realize most of the break in is done in the first 50 miles(like85%) just work it through the gears and downshift at varied speeds, just don't drone on the highway for a while.

Took my 07 SB out for the weekend and didn't wind the gears up real tight, Got on the interstate and rode and rode and rode till I hurt myself.
Took advil that day and nite.
Got up the next morning and did the same thing. I busted my chops trying to not let it lug. And stayed out of 6th gear as much as I could. Breakin in the bike is pretty hard cause it don't pull as good as it does after it had a few thousand miles on it.
Ride it and give it time. Everything will break in and you will start to notise the changes too. I liked it better when the bike had 2500 miles on it.
YOu got yerself a nice bike there. Congrats on yer selection.
