I recently purchased an 05 Dyna, super glide custom. I replace the battery and turn the ignition on the speedometer and odometer lit up turn the key off and it has not come on again. Any ideas
It is probably the battery connection since you had no issues before. My 97 Dyna speedometer went out. The display was blank but the light worked so if the light is not working it is the battery.
Did you start the engine? Turn on the blinkers? What other things are not working?
If your new battery came with little spacers like thick washers, you need to install them between the cable lugs and the battery posts. The lugs must sit flat on the battery terminals.

The battery was completely dead so I replaced it. The old owner said that they didnt have a problem when they used it last which was over a year ago.

yeah Ive had the engine running. All lights work except fog lights. Checked battery connection and changed out fuses. Still not working. Little bit of a head scratcher.

everything else works fine, except for the fog lights which I think is just an age issue with the wiring blinkers work headlight engine runs. Its just a speedometer no backlight no odometer.
My dyna had condensation inside the speedo glass almost from the day I brought it home new. I ask the dealership to replace it at their expense but no joy. When the bike was about 10 years old, it quit working although the lights still worked. I wrote down the mileage and took it to the dealer and ordered a new speedo, and got a decent price on it as a friend was working the parts counter. When the new gauge arrived, it had the correct mileage showing and worked as advertised. I now put a plastic bag over the speedo and a rubber band around the rim to keep the water out. It still gets moisture inside but not as bad as before.
Good luck on yours…
