i am just curious if you were traveling on a highway going about 65 and you blowed the front tire out would you loose control fairly easy or could you safely bring to a stop i was on the highway yesterday and thought about this has any one have a story about a front flat tire on the freeway
Not sure about when going straight, but I had one blow going around a curve. When I came too, I could see a crowd of people standing over me, one of 'em saying "OMG!! I think he's dead" I'm glad she was wrong.
I picked up a big nail in my front tire while blowing down the Highway. I had Metz's on at the time. I def knew something was up because the handling got very sluggish and it got harder and harder to turn the handle bars. I rode it for about 5 miles before it was next to impossible to turn. I limped off the exit ramp, stopped and then figured out what had happened. This tire was flat. I mean flat. This is far from a actual blow out but I felt good about how the tire and bike handled. Just adding my 2 cents worth.
Sometimes you hear about people trying to squeeze as many miles out of their tires as they can git. When my tires git about 60% worn, I immediately call the Indy shop I go to and have Bert order me a tire or tow. I've been riding all my life. Call me Chickenlittle. But I'm not taking any chances.
Good quality front tires are nearly run-flat now for safety.
You can get your speed down safely if you don't panic.
Gone are the days of the front tire flying to pieces, I hope anyway.
Next time you see your brand of front tire off a wheel stick your fingers on each side of the side-wall.
What you will feel is more side-wall than is needed, for safety.
Hopefully the tires made by the dunlop managers during the strike are used up or are off the market...
Well, the tire goes flat, stay off the front brake, slow down and try to get off the road safely. Speed is an issue here too..
If it blows at speed...put your head between your legs....
P.S. I usually change my tires before they are clear gone,e.g. still tread on them, maybe close to 900 miles left, sometimes less, but never all worn out.
[sm=icon_rofl.gif]@ tattood Capn'... Any type of blowout would suck big donkey b*lls... if it were to happen ... like has been said get off the gas... coast towards the shoulder... and hold on... if like softy said if it goes at high speed... it'd be pretty much a done deal..

I hear ya. I was doing speed limit, about 45 or so, the road curving to the left. I heard a POW! and I hit the curb. It's amazing how a good concussion can make you so tired and then the nurses wake you up every 2 hours to make sure you're ok, lol!
