I thought you test CKP by AC output. Though with plugs out, I think it can read high.

That is correct. I have seen between 5-6 AC cranking with a good battery.

No call out for resistance in service manual . My guess is it very little since it just a coil of copper wire I guess. But it's good to know it should show a little.

It's very thin wire and many turns. On the order of 1000 Ohms is pretty typical, but you need the right number to make an assessment.

The jest of this random back and forth was what downtown got on his bad one. Zero resistance which my guess was it was showing open. Just out of curiosity, I asked him did the new one show resistance. That answer came back as an email and I updated this thread.

That was never how you really should check it. If Harley listed a value and tolerance, however, would sure be a little easier checking it that way for me.

Isn't 0 resistance a dead short and not open?

Not sure if his meter said 1 or 00.0. I assumed he meant it was broken somewhere in the coil. If so, my meter would have stayed at 1.

The impedance measurement for an open circuit is known as infinity.

My electric manual I believe gives an AC value to check, not a resistence.

A lot of newer digital meters will show "0L" for an open, or out of range reading.

Without a spec, or at least a couple of examples of known good parts, a resistance measurement is next to useless (unless it's 0 or infinity.)
