Default Adding O2 Sensors?

Hi all,

I've a 2006 street bob with an old fuelpak and stage one tune. I get a lot of decel popping and I think it could run better.

I've bought a power vision and was hoping to use the autotune feature. However, my (UK spec) 2006 street bob doesn't have O2 sensors. I've found the wiring harness connectors and the exhausts have blanks in them instead of sensors.

Has anyone come across a similar issue? Can I just fit some O2 sensors or is my ECU going to throw a fit?

Thanks in Advance, Fletch

To first answer your question.... Yes & No....

Your ECM will not recognize O2 sensors if it is a pre-OEM O2 sensor EFI bike. They all ran on open loop tunes.

The PowerVision tuner allows for both basic auto tuning with OEM 12mm narrow band O2 sensors AND Auto Tune Pro auto tuning with its 18mm wide band O2 sensors. If you have the PowerVision Tuner (not the PowerVision3 or PowerVision4) it will work with the Auto Tune pro module.

If your exhaust doesn't have any 18mm O2 sensor bungs, you will also need to install them in your exhaust to use the Auto Tune Pro module. Many newer exhaust systems have both 18mm & 12mm O2 sensor bungs, or one 18mm bung with a 12mm adapter. They fit various models and you just plug the bungs not needed for your specific application, and/or when tuning.

I did that to tune my 2003 Heritage. The exhaust system I have on the Heritage has 19mm bungs. I plug the Auto Tune Module's 18mm O2 sensors into the exhaust. I also plug the PowerVision tuner and Auto Tune Pro module into the data port of my 2003 Heritage. Then I go for as many auto tune runs as I feel necessary to dial in the VE tables of the tune I want to use.

The Auto Tune Pro Module (#AT-110B) is not a cheap add on with a list price of $600.

Having given some info on adding O2 sensors and auto tuning, here is what I would do FIRST.......

IMHO.... First make sure you don't have an intake or exhaust leak causing your issue. If that all checks Ok, before going the Auto Tune Pro Module route, or a full on Dyno Tune, you can try some of the Decel Popping quick tune tips, if it is running well other than the decel popping.
