Default Viking Bag - Alignment gap?

Hey all,

My wife has a 2016 Dyna Street Bob and she decided on new bags. She ordered bags off of Vikingbags direct with shock cut out. They arrived and the gap behind the bag to where the rear fender is, is too far. Even with the attachment pieces in the kit, the gap is far too big. Is this just how it is and I need to jerry rig my own way to bridge the gap? Or am I missing something else entirely? First time installing bags from a third party.

I do know there is a quick release kit that fills some of a gap, but that is not compatible with the shock cut out bag.

Thanks for any guidance. Even if it's to say I am an idiot and missing something obvious. lol

Will the mounting hardware that came with the bags bridge that distance? In other words, can you mount the bags and you're just unhappy with the gap? IMHO, Viking bags are garbage. From my albeit, limited experience they're poorly made, universal fit crap. The only words my father ever spoke that were worth a **** were "you buy cheap, you buy twice".

YMMV, and as stated, this is just my opinion.

No that is the issue. The provided item has like an inch of distance. The whole opening is almost 2.5 roughly. In the end I will just find some kind of way to fill that gap with a spacer or something, but I thought maybe I was missing something.

Everything else you said is correct. Their universal fit is absolute garbage. Even the license plate relocation doesnt line up and I had to drill holes bigger, add holes, etc. I dont mind working to customize the fit but I thought buying something "For this model bike" would mean it fits. Not fitting with a bunch of customization...

Would suggest buying the quick release bracket kit , that would move the bags more and allow you to remove them easier. Have them on my 2008 fat Bob and would not go any other way .

They don’t fit with the shock indent on the bag.

Yes they do. I’ve got them. Got my quick detach kit from Great Bike Gear back in the day for them. They may not be DESIGNED for the cutout bags but they work. I actually do not recall if they’re specific to the cutout bags or not. I will take a couple of pics of my rig with Viking bags with cutouts tomorrow. Stay tuned.

I have Viking bags on my 03 WG and they are pretty decent for the price but I wouldn’t say they are a 100% bolt on solution. There’s very little space between the shock and the shock cutout on mine. It’s up to the end user to fit them how you want them on your bike.

Check out pics below… These are Viking Bags with Great Bike Gear quick release mounts. If I recall correctly, and this was many years back now… I had to drill a new hole in the steel mounts so I could make them work with the shock cut-out bags. But once I did that the rest was cake. Please disregard the dirtiness of the bike - she's been in the garage all winter long and hasn't been given her springtime bath yet

You can see how the mount juts out over the cutout. You would think this would be a problem, but it’s very unnoticeable when mounted.

These are the stainless steel bolts that the mounts slide onto and lock.

You can see the gap here. This is quite honestly the worst part. But again, it looks WAYYY worse up close than it actually is. Out and about, hardly noticeable. Not to mention, these mounting bolts also facilitate a quick-release Sissy Bar from Harley, so when that is mounted, you literally see no gap at all.
