Doing the 5000 mile service tonight myself, dumping all 3 holes and thinking of going with Amsoil has anyone had any bad experiences with their oils
Just looking for some pros & cons about Amsoil
At my 1000 I put Amsoil 20w50 in the engine and primary and Amsoil 75W90 Severe Gear in my tranny. Very happy with the results and just did my 5000 engine change and put the same back in. My tranny shifts smooth, much more so than the 1st 1000 miles with the moco oil. That may be due to break in though.
I have not used AMSOIL but from all the post on the forum its a very good oil (one of the best)
If it were so good, Auto Zones, Pep Boys, and all other auto supply places would be falling all over each other to carry it. Why jump through hoops for oil when you can get all kinds of good oils locally when you need it? Example Mobil1 VTwin....

I agree that it seems like you have to buy Amsoil in a dark alley ....... but Mobil 1 VTwin is not much better - at least around here. Only the Wally World supercenters carry it, and they are few and far between .... before I make the 45 minute trip, I call up and hope I get someone who knows what I'm looking for. I think they buy 1 case at a time, it's almost never in stock. I have no idea where to buy the Mobil1 gear lube?

Overall I am very happy and will not change.
CSTOLP, Do these oils say they are for motorcycles? or, do you just ask for Amsoil? I too am about to do my 5K. Also.
I don't believe Amsoil is any better or any worse, nor will it give you better protection or performance, than any other name brandoil on the market. Use what you want, spend as much as you want, but you won't see any difference in the end. Your engine will last and run just as good with any brand oil you put in it, even the despised HD Syn 3. JMHO
I use Amsoil in my '07 SB and have good results so far. It seems to run cooler and shift smoother. I think thatAmsoil, Mobile 1 V-Twin or RedLine are all good choices. It is much easier for me to find Amsoil or RedLine locally than the Mobile 1. It wouldn't matter to me if the SYN 3 was the best oil, I still wouldnât use it. It is made by Citgo, and I have no interest in putting money in Hugo Chavez' pocket. Just my $.02.
